I had a very disappointing and frustrating experience here. I asked if I could mix tandoori chicken and malai chicken for €18. We specifically discussed this in both English and Hindi, and the man confirmed that it was possible and that the chicken would be bone-in, which I agreed to. My husband also reconfirmed the price, and again, we were told yes no problem.
However, when the bill came, we were charged €32 for the full mixed grill platter. I questioned this immediately, explaining that I only ordered tandoori and malai chicken, not the full mixed grill. The man completely denied ever agreeing to the €18 price, despite both my husband and I clearly discussing and confirming it with him. He said he couldn’t change the price because the order was already entered into the system, and that they pay government tax, so adjusting it would mean that HE would have to pay the difference “from his own pocket.”
After I stood my ground and refused to pay €32 that I did not agree to, he reluctantly agreed to remove €5 and said he would personally cover the rest. He then tried to justify the price by saying that for €18, I would’ve only received two chicken pieces which is ridiculous. If that had been made clear, I never would’ve placed the order.
To make matters worse, during the discussion he said, “This is the problem with our people,” That comment was completely inappropriate and offensive.
As Australians, €32 is over $60 AUD, that’s a significant amount. If we had known we were being charged that much, we would have ordered something entirely different or the proper full mixed grill.
The entire experience felt dishonest and disrespectful. I left feeling upset and taken advantage of. I hope this serves as a lesson to...
Read moreSadly a negative review after a while:
If I could give this place a negative review, I would. While the location and atmosphere are really nice, the main issue with them is the food. The chefs aren’t Indian, which likely contributes to the lack of authenticity.
We ordered onion bhaji and veg pakora, both drenched in oil and tasted of overused oil. The onion bhaji is usually supposed to be crispy but was soggy and oily. We sent them back. We then tried the mint chicken, which was undercooked, hard to cut, and had a mint layer full of artificial color. The marinade clearly hadn’t penetrated the meat. We canceled our entire order after realizing the food isn't really authentic and that the 3 bad dishes had already killed our appetite. Additionally they charge for onions on the side (5€) really surprising, as that’s usually complimentary all around the world.
However, I must mention that the staff was very kind and respectful overall. This review is not to harm the business but to help travelers set realistic expectations. An Indian chef may solve the authenticity...
Read moreIf you are craving for Indian food in Mykonos; change your mind! After a steep 87m incline hike from the Mykonos town, we arrived at Hola to satisfy our Indian food cravings which we cook & eat everyday! The server explicitly asked us the spice level and we mentioned a medium spice level (just the usual)! Our excitement turned into a disappointment/disaster eating an extra extra spicy version of both the dishes that we ordered! Our cravings were met by a series of punishments trying to eat! And there weren’t any staff around whom we could raise this to after we tasted! During the checkout; we did notify the ULTRA SPICY level of the food to the staff and they acknowledged the and tried to compensate by offering us a mango/coconut kulfi on the house! Yes, this was a really nice gesture but the kulfi was awful! Nothing but frozen coconut with some sugar! So un-appetizing that we left it there after having a couple bites! Since I am not a local to Mykonos, this will be my only reference memory to visit this place; if you have/had a better experience at this place,...
