Pagona's Place — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

The restaurant is small and family run which made the experience a lot better than the bigger restaurant that are designed to attract the main tourist on road by the sea. This is a 5 minute walk from the touristy area with the proper style greek meals are meant to be more small dishes rather than the big plates that people often struggle to finish.

The staff are very friendly and can speak English very well, have always been helpful and have made my experience even better through good recommendations and excellent food.

Lastly, the food has a decent variety to satisfy a wide range of people and their desires. Most of the food such as the fish and a lot of other ingredients are freshly sourced from the local area. Also at a decent price to compete with the more touristy restaurants. After talking to the staff they often say that they continue to run even in the winter as it is very popular with the locals which means that it is real and excellent restaurant to go to.

The staff will ensure that you are full and satisfied and will often give you a homemade yogurt with rum and raisin desert when asking for the bill. If asked they will give you a home raki (popular Greek spirit shots)

My wife and I visited Crete for our anniversary and we just happened upon Pagona's place. From the moment we set foot onto her property we felt like family - we had the last table by the street and it was a bit brisk out, so Pagona came over with blankets and insisted we cover up to stay warm, draping the blankets over our shoulders. This was all before we even ordered any food, which was absolutely spectacular. Of the several times I have travelled to Greece, and of all of my travels around the world, Pagona's remains at the top of my list of places to visit. The food, the atmosphere, and most importantly the warm and welcoming owner made this place beyond exceptional. In fact, we were so impressed that we dined there every night for dinner for the remainder of our trip; our only regret being we didn't find Pagona's Place sooner. 10 minutes from the center of Rethimnon you will find this small restaurant where you have to make reservations because it's always full! The first time we couldn't choose what to eat because the menu is quite big so we asked Pagona to just make us some and she didn't let us down. We got several delicious dishes and where surprised when we also got raki and desert for free! When the bill came i couldn't believe they can make all this delicious food for so little money! Normally we never go back to the same restaurant in our holiday but we couldn't resist and went back a few days later to have another great dinner at Pagona's. We had the lamb chops and big prawns.
