Make sure you ask for the bill, check it carefully, and ask for the receipt
Found on the street we were on. Man outside offered a free glass of wine and 10% discount off the bill. Sat down, ordered mains, ate, then paid the bill. Asked for a receipt and manager seemed hesitant and asked back “you want receipt?”, huffed, then issued the item receipt. After this the Waiter came to the table and said “here are some crepes as a final surprise”.
Back at the table there was an item on the receipt that was unrecognisable as it didn’t tally up with anything we had ordered. We asked our waiter what it was, thinking it was maybe an error or an incorrect item, and she said “let me get someone”, and went and got the other waitress. The other waitress came over and we asked what the item was and she said “wait one moment for me” and went outside and spoke to the man who brought us in. This exchange between them seemed heated, as she threw her hands up at him, and he shook his head and dismissed her. We translated the item and it said “Bread” which we didn’t receive or order, so thought it must be an error on the bill. The waitress then disappeared back into the other side of the restaurant. Then the manager (who had proceeded the payment) came over, we asked what the item was as we hadn’t ordered or received any bread, and he shrugged and said “couvert, couvert” we thought it was a mistranslation and shook our heads and the manager said “couvert, for the table. If you want to know what it is, google it.” We still shook our heads and said we didn’t understand that the item was, and the man from outside was at the table as well, and he said “it’s for the bread”. We said we didn’t order any bread. The manager then walked off but the man from outside hung around the table, we then repeated the same conversation with him again, he took the receipt and with his pen took €10 off the bill. As I had already paid with my card I took my receipt up to the bar, explained that I’d paid and I’d need €10 credited back onto my card. The woman said that I’d be given cash back.
The manager then appeared, the woman said to him that I needed refunded, he took both my card and item receipt, looked at them for a very long time and then gave me a €10 note out of the cash machine, and kept both the item receipt and my payment receipt. Things were already very tense and the manager very unhappy, so even though I was owed more money, I was almost made whole with the cash so I quickly left, as i had already photographed my receipt when it was at the table.
The restaurant staff could have dealt with the issue straight away and brushed it off as a mistake. But the managers response of “Couvert, google it” tells me he knows exactly the type of scam he is trying to pull on tourists who don’t speak...
Read moreWe were initially drawn in by the enticing offer of free wine and crepes, and greeted warmly by the man at the door. His friendliness set a hopeful tone. Unfortunately, the experience quickly deteriorated.
• Service & Atmosphere: The waiter made us feel uncomfortable, particularly after learning where we were from. One member of our group felt singled out for not ordering a Greek dish, which was unsettling. The waitress at the end was openly rude about us paying by card, which added to the overall discomfort. • Food & Portions: While the food itself was pleasant in parts, 2 out of 4 dishes arrived with noticeably small portions. The calamari, in particular, was a letdown—lacking the freshness and flavor of any other seafood we tried in Santorini. The promised “free wine” was served warm, which was disappointing. Two of our additional orders—drinks and sides—never arrived. • Crepes & Promises: The crepes offered at the door turned out to be just one shared between us, with no consultation on ingredients—an oversight that could have been dangerous for anyone with allergies.
We did appreciate the complimentary items, but it became clear they were offered to offset the poor service. A promising start, but sadly not an experience we’d...
Read moreWe originally passed this restaurant while taking a walk midday after having our wine tasting at Kipo restaurant next door. It seemed nice and there was a young man at the door encouraging us to come in to dine. We asked what time they closed and he said midnight so we told him that we may return later for dinner. In fact, we did. When we arrived (9:30 ish), it was completely dead but the same young man was there and said they'd still be open for another 1hr so he invited us in. Positives: Decor is nice, they offer a few cocktails (margaritas were good), the tomato fritters were decent and the young man, who ended up serving us, was polite and attentive. Negatives: The food was very underwhelming. My lamb chops were basically bones and my wife's seafood pasta was visually appealing but had practically no flavor and had noodles that seemed like they came out of a box sold in the dollar store. After already spending $96 euros on the meal, we didn't bother to order dessert in fear of more disappointment. This was the first meal that we weren't satisfied with during our Greece trip. Maybe breakfast or brunch here would be better but dinner was a...
