It is not very often that I feel compelled to write a review on eateries, as there are so many factors that are subject to individual tastes and expectations. However, I make this exception because I feel a few words are warranted for this understated yet highly pleasurable cafe.
The first thing that warmed me to Foodie is the location. Situated on Papadiamantis Street in the main town of Skiathos, this is a perfect spot to watch the bustle of daily life pass by without being overwhelmed by a mass of people. The tables are spotless, the chairs are comfortable and the service is as prompt or as laid back as you wish it to be.
The cafe is owned and run by Christos, together with his wife Miriellla (forgive me if the spelling is incorrect) who are two of the most welcoming people you will ever meet. Of course, they have a business to run, but their friendliness and eagerness to please their clientele goes beyond what is necessary to ensure a happy customer. In fact, Christos always encourages any constructive criticism from his guests as he believes that this is the only way to improve his service … not that I think it requires any improvement.
Foodie Cafe is open from around 7am in the morning to late at night and serves breakfasts, pastries, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, salads, coffees, wine beer and spirits and a selection of after-dinner sweets. What Foodie Cafe doesn’t sell is every food combination you can think of, which in my personal opinion is a very clever move; I for one hate being overwhelmed with a menu the thickness of a small novel or a plethora of dishes that make you lose the will to live trying to choose.
Foodie Cafe has found the right formula and with less irrelevant dishes to prepare, you are assured that all the meals and/or snacks that they offer are carefully and freshly created … and believe me, they ALL taste superb: especially the homemade “Black Angus” burgers.
In my mind … and again, this is subjective … Foodie makes the best latte in Skiathos. I’ve tried a lot of coffee shops in Skiathos and it’s hard to fathom how so many get it wrong
Prices at Foodie Cafe are reasonable and pretty much the same as any other coffee shop in the main town (€2.50 for a latte for example) but it’s not only the food and drink that you get for your money here, it’s that sense of being genuinely welcomed and unhurried.
If you ever have the pleasure to visit the island of Skiathos, visiting the unassuming eatery that is Foodie Cafe (if only once ) is an absolute must which is why I highly recommend it.
