STAMATIS — Restaurant in Skiathos Municipality

We were in Skiathos for two weeks and decided to eat out a couple of nights in Skiathos town. Having walked around a bit, we decided on Taverna Stamatis. It looks very similar to all the other places and has a good outlook over the old port area.

We went on a very hot and still night so were quite uncomfortable initially. There are fans in the seating area which did a decent job of making us more comfortable.

Ordered our drinks, I had a Mythos but others in our group of seven had wine, the carafes were enormous so make sure you’re thirsty!

I ordered a steak which looked really nice when it arrived but I made the mistake of forgetting the pepper sauce! I asked the waiter and they knocked a bit of fresh stuff up really quickly and it just made the meal spot on.

The sauce was so nice I asked for an extra bowl of chips to finish it off but all of a sudden I seemed to be surrounded by octopi wanting some of my sauce and chips!

Everyone said their meal was perfect and the bill for seven of us was VERY reasonable at under 150 euros.

Would definitely...

The good: nice location, elevated, overlooking the port and interesting options in the menu. The bad: didn't like the food, even though it's a fish taverna and we specifically chose fish dishes (stuffed calamari and some traditional fish dish with rice, boiled potatoes and some veggies). Also, it's the kind of place where they completely ignore you after they bring your food, to the point where they'd walk backwards just to avoid eye contact and you end up wasting more than half an hour just trying to receive and pay your bill. Complementary desert goes only to the guests...

I tend to leave positive reviews and was hopeful going in. A lot of people sat here compared to a few other places. Sat for a long time waiting for the food, which is absolutely fine if the food is delicious. I had the lobster, and they overcooked it with what must have been 30min+. It was very dry and soggy, a big letdown.

They asked me how I thought the food was and the same was said to them there then here, just in fewer words. Absolutely no remorse for letting that Lobster and I down 😂
