Andrássy Garden — Restaurant in Budapest

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL. We are young French tourists and here’s why we don't recommend this restaurant AT ALL.

As soon as we arrived, the manager didn't direct us to any specific free table. We had to guess which table was free for us to sit at, before the manager came back to clear us away from tables that were reserved, even though he hadn't given us any directions. Finally seated, the manager handed us over to another waiter, who also didn't seem too happy to serve us.

My friend didn't even have a menu, so we had to share one to decide what we wanted to eat. After waiting a while, we were finally able to send our order... or almost... Our waiter had forgotten to send our order and we waited OVER 40 MINUTES just to receive our cocktails !!! When they realized they'd forgotten to bring our cocktails, it was only a young waitress who came to apologize for the delay...

For the main courses, we had to wait ANOTHER 20 MINUTES on top of the initial waiting time. In short, we waited OVER 1 HOUR for our meal :( In all the time we were at this restaurant, the manager NEVER CAME to apologize for the long wait !!

The service being SO BAD, we were reassured to see that the food was actually still good. The cooks seem to be the only ones who know how to do their job here...

At the end of our meal, no one came up to ask us if everything had gone well. When we tried to talk to the manager about it, he IMMEDIATELY turned away to avoid the conversation. We were absolutely against the idea of having to pay 22 800 Ft for such an unpleasant moment, but we still liked the food and we are still respectable people.

We had a group reservation with food and drink included. After a long day we arrived 20 minutes early and been advised our drink package not started yet so our order will need to be paid separately, which is fair enough. I ordered a draft and had dinner ( only soft drinks after the beer) and conversation with friends.

When leaving, I asked our waitress if I can pay for my beer. He advised I should pay at the bar. I walked to the bar where an other waiter told me I have to go out to the garden where next to the entrance there is a guy he can take my payment. Seemed odd but fine… I walked out where was an other waiter who was taking order for a table so I stepped a bit back, but clearly in his sight. When he finished he looked at me and walked to the other direction without asking me a word to take an order for an other table. I was waiting long minutes - even an other younger staff asking me what’s the matter and confirmed the only guy I can pay is the one ignoring me. I was standing in the front entrance over ten minutes (I was uncomfortable 1 week post surgery standing long)

When finally the main waiter come to me talking with a thick accent (surely not Hungarian) he literally flipped at me that “not now go inside and pay there”. I couldn’t believe his arrogance and attitude. All I wanted a bill. I am extremely disappointed that at such a great location this business does not care about customers. Obviously their goal is to rip off tourists and never see them...

I’m writing this review as I enjoy my lunch. Overall, the food was pretty good but not mind blowing. The lemonade that came with lunch was very refreshing. The presentation of each plate was nice and the staff was very responsive, kind, and respectful. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because nothing felt like it was out of the ordinary, but I was pleased with the experience. Dessert was the best part, and the prices were not too bad. I payed around 20 US dollars. Compared to prices back home, it was okay but I’m sure you can find cheaper options in the area. It was pretty slow at around 3pm when I had lunch, coming at a more busy time might change the experience. I’d say it’s worth giving it a try if you’re in the area.

Update: Prices are a bit... So I decided to have lunch here again. This time it was only a la carte... which was a bit disappointing because the lunch option I had before was a really good deal. I ordered the burger and some water. Burger was nothing amazing, a bit on the salty side for my taste. For the price, I wish I would have gone somewhere else but the proximity to where I was staying and the heat outside made me come here again. The staff was a bit busy this time but still respectful and helpful. The cost of just the burger was 4790 forints, about the same as the three items I had the day before... I would recommend finding out if they have the three course meal available...
