Cafe Hadik is an amazing neighborhood spot with a beautiful interior of large arched windows, serving simple but elegant Hungarian dishes.
I ordered the traditional Hungarian potato casserole (rakott burgonya/krumpli) with boiled quail egg and crispy parmesan chips. The casserole was hearty, delicious, and extremely satisfying on a cold winter’s day. For drinks, I had the peppermint herbal tea which was very soothing.

“The Hadik Café enjoyed its heyday in the 1910s, when Karinthy, Kosztolányi, Déry, Móricz and Böhm Aranka considered the place almost as their living room.
In 2010, the Hadik Café was revived to its original splendor with two catering and cultural spaces: the classic Hadik Café, which pays tribute to the spirit of its great predecessors with its design and the separate Szatyor Bar and Gallery, which reinterprets the bohemian world of the turn of the century to a more progressive and contemporary atmosphere. In addition to the quality gastronomy, both places also have a cultural profile. Hadik and Szatyor are permanent homes for literary evenings, artistic discussions, musical productions and exhibitions, with which we intend to revive the...
Read moreThe drinks were superb, great selection of wines and carefully crafted cocktails. The food, on the other hand… I ordered a burger and I can honestly tell you that it was the worst burger I have ever eaten. The meat tasted like it was cheap, old and it was heavily over salted. It was the type of burger which you would expect to get at a €1 euro burger place on a bad day. As for the service, it gets even worse. We asked for another drink to wash down that not so good burger and the man who served the table next to us said it wasn’t his job, ask someone else. Later on when I went inside to the bathroom I saw the same waiter (or maybe the manager? assuming because he was dressed slightly differently) basically screaming at the bartenders, which was honestly a terrifying sight considering the drinks were the only thing I was fully satisfied with. If the dude wearing a checked shirt and glasses is reading this – please stop talking like that to people especially during service time. It made my blood boil and I could see the people working in the bar were both on the verge of crying. Maybe turn your attention elsewhere – to the kitchen to make sure the burgers you serve don’t give your guests gut pains, or your own serving skills which are honestly in desperate need for...
Read moreThe place looked like the perfect place for a fun date night dinner. We had a great experience with the waiter (she was very hard working and lovely), the drinks and the appetizer (the homemade pita with the feta and sun dried tomato dip was wonderful, would absolutely recommend). But as soon as we got to our main course, we were shocked. The presentation of the food was great, but as soon as we took our first bites, we were wildly disappointed. Only one word can describe the food: greasy! There was no balance to the food, it just tasted like oil. When people call Hungarian food overly greasy I always get shocked, but this place definitely confirms that stereotype. Both of us walked away with shattered expectations. The menu also did a horrible job representing what the food is, with its unclear descriptions and no photos. It made it very disappointing when we saw the food, because I felt like what I was described in the menu didn't match what I got. Based on the appetizer, this place has a lot of potential, but that main course really ruined the...
