I've been here before. It's connected to the bookstore on the körút. I bought some books, my phone desperately needed charging so it can last till i get home. I see they're getting ready for some event so i ask about it. Turns out ive found myself at a chinese book clubs event that's going to start soon. I honestly expected atleast a few seats to remain vacant. But i swear we were huddled in close, and not from the lack of space but from the overwhelming amount of interest ive come to find out. The book was Kézbesíthetetlen szerelem by Lu Men. (Originally written in chinese). I learned a lot about the cultural revolution and how it affected everyone who had to live through it. The event its self was held in hungarian and there was also a long video message introducing the book, herself and the process of working with the translaters by the author. She spoke in her own dialect(not sure which). While the video had subtitles, the event didnt have a translator/interpreter. So since i was quickly becoming wine drunk in this beautiful little adventure ive found myself in i offered to translate to the girl sitting next to me. I think she appreciated it. Even said so. What might've scared her off is me admiting at the end of the event that i am a little tipsy and adding that i think i could've done a better job translating sober.😅but you know. This is just my ramblings.
TLDR, in short: city center prices but yummy stuff, comfy atmosphere, great events, great small eventspace. Had...
Read moreA really great place to have a coffee and do some reading. Nice atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. The one downside is wifi access. While the access itself is very good, you only have access to the wifi for a maximum of 1 hour - this really stinks....A LOT.
The reason behind this is because the owner doesn't want people coming in and only ordering an espresso and then staying for 6-8 hours just to use the wifi and take up places to sit. I understand this completely, but as a remote worker it's extremely disheartening. It portrays the cafe as uninviting and unwelcoming, despite its many perceived positives.
What the owner fails to recognize is that patrons can use their phone as a hotspot to work/study and STILL take up seats. So despite this ridiculous 1 hour wifi rule, people can still stay if they really want to, thereby frustrating the owner's profit driven objectives. I'd love to be a fly on the wall as the owner realizes this comic irony. His wifi rule is turning more customers away than he/she expected to bring in. Unfortunately I wont be returning, feel free to to take my seat.... for an hour. Life's unfair for everyone...
Read moreThis trendy and contemporary book café was a delight to visit and have a cup of coffee and have some delicious pastries, while sightseeing. What a truly delightful place, with its unique interior layout of seating arrangements and books that enhance the ambiance or atmosphere of the café. This trendsetting and stylish café is a draw for many of the younger or college age customers, but is equally welcoming to people of any age. The coffee and treats were delicious, so much a few of us had to go back for more. The staff was amazing, friendly, talkative and more than willing to engage in social conversations. The prices were more than reasonable and what we loved most of all were all the Halloween decorations to include the pastries, we were there during Halloween. There is nothing better than exploring outside the boundaries of the normal tourist areas to fully emerge yourself in the local culture, the food, and its people, and Budapest was...
