We stayed in Hotel Museum Budapest in August 2018 as a family for 3 nights. We booked the room through Booking-com and later emailed the Hotel for our special requests and other queries. Check-in was easy, reception staff was pleasant and co-operative, they provided us with many tourist information about Budapest.
We came from Budapest International airport in FoTaxi to the hotel and the taxi meter bill was 8550 HUF with all the afternoon traffic.
Hotel is located in a safe and peaceful neighborhood, one block away from the main road and hence the place is calm. The hotel is a walk-able distance from Astoria metro station, and well connected by Trams, Trolleybuses, and buses from Astoria.
There are few supermarkets near the hotel, and one of them, Tesco, closes only at 22.00 and was helpful. There are few good eateries near the Astoria metro station, we almost had all our snacks from 'Pizza King Express, Astoria', they serve Pizzas and Turkish dishes at a reasonable rate and their portion size is impressive.
Note that the Hotel doesn't provide complimentary drinking water or kettles in the room. They have coffee machines in the lobby, which is free to use after breakfast time until 17.00.
We stayed in a superior room, facing a parking place, with no balcony. Room was clean, with proper lighting and two windows with heavy curtains. Air conditioning, lockers, mini fridge, clean bathroom, an ample supply of towels and toiletries, all as advertised. The bathroom door has no lock, so it was a little uncomfortable for us as we traveled with a kid.
The hotel provided us with a baby cot, also they gave us 2 umbrellas for our time of stay.
I read in previous reviews that the breakfast area could be crowded after 8 am, so we tried to reach at 7 am and avoided this. Breakfast is average, no live counters, but they provide almost all dishes. The staff was kind enough to allow us to pack some fruits and snacks for our toddler as she isn't used to an early breakfast. We would like to express our special thanks again to the Hotel and staff for the relaxed policies.
On our last day of stay, we had to check out early in the morning, on our request they packed and delivered breakfast bags for us, which was very helpful.
The famous ruin bar Szimpla Kert Budapest is half a kilometer walking distance from the Hotel.
We traveled to Bratislava from Budapest, so we took a yellow taxi from the main road and went to Nyugati Palyaudvar Railway station to catch our train. It cost us 1650 HUF for a...
Read moreLocation great.||Cleanliness, excellent.||Didn’t use the spa facilities.||Didn’t have breakfast at the hotel despite paying for B&B as the breakfast area was incredibly busy and tightly compact with limited seating for all guests, so we opted to have breakfast out of each morning.||Arrived a good 6 hours before check in time (3pm) unable to check in earlier than the check in time, but our luggage was left in a secure room which was reassuring.||Allocated a room on the 5th floor, no issue. We did enquire as to a room upgrade which we would have been happy to pay for, however were informed that all rooms were fully booked, disappointing but understandable.||Room overlooking the construction development of the adjacent building was a big issue for us, being woken at 7am each morning by contractors moving and cutting re-bar and general construction activities put a real dampener on our stay.||Room decor was really really dark and dull, natural light into the room was scarce so it felt like staying in basement room with little or no light.||The hotel did send a WhatsApp asking if everything was satisfactory with the room, however in light of us being informed that there were no other rooms available we declined to provide feedback on our concerns and simply put up with what we had been provided.||Budapest is stunning, vibrant, a great city with so much to see and do.||Our tips would be to book a superior or larger room which from the reviews appear to be better than the standard rooms by a considerable stretch.||Consider eating breakfast out for a better dining experience.||And finally check with the hotel which room you are to be allocated, if you are allocated a room at the rear of the hotel overlooking the construction site it is incredibly noisy and inconvenient with early morning activity starting as...
Read moreI really dislike leaving a bad review but the stay was not as great as we anticipated.
The reviews on here are so great that it was an easy choice to make when booking on BA holidays for a city break.
We arrived in the early hours and the room was small and looked more depressing as the bedroom lights are very dim (the hotel receptionist later told us that others have mentioned this but the owners like low lighting)...maybe they should spend a night in a room as it's tough to get ready and made up when in such a dark room!
The safe didn't work. We first thought we'd made an error when the receptionist unlocked it for us, but then the same thing happened again...locked out. Luckily we hadn't put anything in it.
One morning housekeeping took away our dirty towels and didn't replace them!
The worst thing and this really affected my sleep (even with earplugs) was the intermittent vibration sounds...we had no idea where this was coming from but reception couldn't hear it and we couldn't keep them there to wait for it!).
Another VERY DISAPPOINTING thing was my boyfriend had emailed them ahead of time to tell them it was my birthday during our stay. I was not expecting a grand gesture or freebies but a simple' Happy birthday' would have made my day. Instead, they replied to him that 'for 55€ they could offer a surprise package and put flowers and a bottle of wine in the room'. High mark-up? Not even an acknowledgement of thanking us for choosing them etc...just straight into a sales package. As I said...a simple happy birthday would have made my day and made me feel special!
On the plus side the location is great. Breakfast was nice...nothing special. The beds are soft which we like and the spa was lovely (although we had to ask for towels as they weren't stocked.
A very...
