We have just spent a week at the continental. |The room |was small and dark. Two of us couldn’t fit in the bathroom at the same time. |The shower is a hose over the bath, although the water was hot each day. |The room faced an apartment block so we constantly had to draw the curtains as the bathroom was too small to dress in.|There is a fridge and mini bar and ample wardrobe space. The room had a weird smell. |Cleaning staff were great and we struggled with the language barrier but got there with props. ||Breakfast|Boiled eggs, pastries, cheese and fruit. |There was supposed to be an omelette station but they didn’t have the staff to man it. One toaster for the whole dinning area. I put my bread in and a hand reached over and switched it off. No explanation. I followed and asked why. The toaster needed to warm up. Breakfast had been on for over 2 hours. |Another morning I put cereal on our table and room card and went to get a drink. When I returned the cereal was gone, table cleared. What a waste! |The dinning staff need training.||The Gym is tiny. ||Location|If you turn right as you exit the hotel and walk a couple of roads you will come to the ruin bar Simpler Kert and Caravan. All other attractions are 15-40 mins walk away. Even using transport we averaged 18k steps per day. Staying closer to the attractions in Pest would be much easier. ||Take a photo of the front of the hotel if you book as there is no sign to let you know it’s the Continental. ||Expense |We found it a little cheaper than the UK. Transport trains, trams and busses are all free to the over 65. You can use your driving licence to save carrying your passport. |All transport is extremely efficient and on time. Wonderful service.||Food|We tried buffalo Hungarian Goulash at Buda Castle while the band played. Wonderful setting. |Lángos at Caravan|Chimney cake in Pest main shopping. |Worth noting that each restaurant will have it own version of a dish. We had a chicken paprika that was delicious and another not so good. |We also tried the steak and realised they have no idea what medium is. ||Can also recommend the Legenda river cruise. We booked the 7.30 trip and the lights came on just before we sailed. ||We also did the hop on hop off bus. Found that to be expensive and definitely check your headphones and socket when you get seated as neither of ours worked. ||Overall a lovely week in beautiful Budapest but would choose a different hotel and be closer to the restaurants bars and...

You can use card on the bus. takes 25 mins and is the Astoria stop (2nd stop) then cross over to The Synagogue and carry on straight 8 mins, to the road number at the top of this review, it is on the left and just has Hotel sign outside, large wooden revolving doors, and a party shop on the opposite side of the road.|Check in was efficient and quick, and we had a bottle of fizz brought to the room, which was a nice touch. We had a classic room on the 5th floor. Apart from noisy air con, the room was perfect. A very good sized room with a Super king bed with super comfortable mattress, nice quality bedding and great shower and bathroom area, with plenty of toiletries which were replenished as necessary (no hair conditioner) fresh towels daily, and bedding changed after 2 days. Mini fridge stocked with soft drinks, but was never cold. All spotlessly clean. The room had a large heavy solid door and I can honestly say we never heard a sound when in our room which was great for sleep quality.||Breakfast was superb with everything available, replenished constantly and of a good standard. We got there for 8.30am so not too busy.|The reception and lounge area are very nice and always plenty of seating. The galleried bar area up the staircase was good, although we felt the tables were too high for the chairs, which meant that you had to reach up for your drink, resulting in knocking the stem a few times.!! Happy hour on a couple of cocktails between 5pm-7pm (best Aperol Spritz in Budapest).||Hotel is in a good position to get around, and the red hop on hop off bus is the best way to get around, go to the vendors and you can get 3 days plus a Danube cruise for approx £32 pp, well worth it.|We found eating out to be fairly expensive, and taxes and service charges on everything, so be aware of this. There are supermarkets on every corner, so we purchased drinks and snacks there.||Budapest is a spectacular City and a 4 night break was perfect for us.|I would definitely...
Read moreRecently stayed at the Continental and here’s my honest review of it. Lovely hotel with some beautiful features. Try the bar upstairs and you’ll see what I mean. What I liked and what I didn’t like ;
Decent location with some nice breakfast and dinner options nearby.
Staff friendly and helpful, especially the concierge team - to a point (see below)
Here’s why I’ve given it a 3
Arranged a “hotel Mercedes transfer” via the hotel. Instead, we got a tesla. The transfer is arranged via a 3rd party taxi company and they should’ve provided a Mercedes but they didn’t. It was my wife’s birthday and I wanted to surprise her. Perhaps it was due to us having a late arrival, who knows. They did say they would query it but I never got a reply. Mate’ (concierge) said he would get back to me with an update, that didn’t happen. It was also very expensive, in particular when you compare it to Bolt - as it’s half the price. Don’t use the hotel to book your transfer, use Bolt and you won’t go wrong or be ripped off. I cancelled our return journey and used Bolt.
Bath / shower towels are paper thin and have seen their day. Sink in bathroom took a while to drain. Shower tray in our room was dangerous. It was very soft in places to the point you could feel your feet “sinking”. It was weird. Something not quite right there. Decent shower tho.
Orange juice in breakfast room is disgusting. Watered down to the point you can’t taste any orange. Same for the grapefruit juice. Omelette station is very good tho.
Noise…..when we were there they were working on the 6th floor. Hammering, replacing floor skirtings and other fittings in the hallway. This was ongoing for two days. No warning whatsoever - unacceptable.
We had an executive room at the front of the building. Although there were heavy curtains, they let in too much natural light to the point our room was really bright early in the morning. Would I upgrade to the executive room again - no way, it’s not worth it.
Overall, it’s a very decent hotel but it’s far...
