Hello All,
Those of you who know me, know I love food and music. The food scene in Budapest is getting more interesting for we locals (okay long-time immigrant in my case). We have been sorely lacking in truly authentic Japanese food. There are a few, many owned and run by non-Japanese.
Tonight I had the pleasure of dining at a new place, open only four (4) months. Ramen Nikko Budapest. Krudy utca 6
It is without question the best and most authentic ramen here in town. Although the noodles are not home made, they are served al dente, with a perfect chewiness. The rich and slightly thick Miso ramen broth (my choice tonight) was filled with umami, and the noodles were piping hot. You really had to SLURP to cool them off. As a fun test, as I was halfway though my noodles, I yelled out to the waiter KAEDAMA KUDASAI! He smiled, and a few minutes later an extra helping of noodles was brought to me. A+++
I'll go back and try everything on the menu one by one! You should too.
美味しいお食事をありがとうございました! Oishī o shokuji o arigatōgozaimashita!
NOTE: I didn't have my camera, so I grabbed a photo from their facebook page. Full...
Read moreCozy ramen place in downtown Budapest with a great atmosphere and super friendly staff. They even welcome you with a glass of water, which is a nice touch although sadly, the water had an odd, unpleasant foul taste. Tried the Takoyaki first, which should be crispy on the outside and soft inside, but here it was just soggy. Way too much mayo, barely any takoyaki sauce flavor, and the octopus filling was bland. The Spicy Tantanmen Ramen was an absolute letdown. The broth was overly oily making it inedible, lacked depth, and the toppings were almost non existent. Just a few bites of dry, unseasoned minced beef and a few slices of bamboo shoots. Have to pay extra for nori seaweed and marinated egg which also lacked flavors. The noodles clearly aren’t homemade, just store bought and basic. The place isn’t cheap, and unfortunately the food just doesn’t live up to the price. Don’t be misled by the high reviews which are most likely given by acquaintances. If you’ve had good ramen before, this probably won’t hit the mark. Great service alone isn’t enough. They really need to work on the quality...

Ramen Nikko offers a truly authentic dining experience. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly, always ready to guide you through the different ramen options, which makes ordering easy even if you're new to Japanese cuisine. Service is fast, yet never rushed, and the atmosphere feels warm and welcoming. The ramen itself is delicious, with perfectly balanced flavors and portion sizes that are just right — satisfying without being too much. There are several versions of the popular tonkotsu ramen, as well as tasty options with chicken, or vegan option, so there's something for everyone.
For those who enjoy a more laid-back, urban vibe, there's also an outdoor seating area where you can soak in the street atmosphere while enjoying your meal.
