Went here for my birthday brunch and have deep regrets about my choice — there are so many incredible restaurants in Budapest and this food was far below par, and massively inflated in price. I had an English muffin that was literally half a muffin, a slice of prepackaged American cheese (when advertised as cheddar), no bacon jam as advertised and one, 1cm fragment of pork belly. My husband had no pork belly on his at all. The mains were tiny and quite a lot worse than an egg on toast I’d make at home. The goats cheese side I had was OK but nothing special and my husband’s beetroot side was inedible due to how heavily vinegared it was.
We got the bottomless bubbles which turned out to be one large glass for me and less than one large glass for my husband due to the waiter topping up other customer’s glasses with our bottle (which was taken away “to put on ice”, but visibly not put on ice and instead used to fill other people’s drinks). When we pointed out our bottle was being used for other customers, we were told it wasn’t and that other customers were drinking alcohol free Prosecco despite that being patently untrue and me literally seeing him top them up using ours as both bottle and waiter were in my direct line of sight. So in the end it cost 98 pounds for half an English muffin each, two small sides and maximum half a bottle of Prosecco in total. ASTONISHING.
The waitress was quite nice and offered us a feee dessert when we mentioned the food was bad but we declined as we really just wanted to get out of there after the whole lying about Prosecco fiasco. The views were good and the decor was nice so maybe it’s better to come here for a drink, but there are so many really amazing places in Budapest I wouldn’t bother…and hang onto your bottle if...
Read moreFor a high-class restaurant that wants to raise to the Standards of Salt, this was a horrible experience.
First of all, we made a reservation for a table for two, we were in the mood for a nice dinner. And we specified in the reservation form that we want to make sure that they have vegetarian options, so they called back and assured us they have vegetarian options.
When we got there, they offered to switch something in the 4 dish menu, that is a shared menu for two and male it more vegan, but that would've mean that both of us would've eat vegan that night, so we kindly refused and asked to pick something from the à la carte menu. There, I picked for myself some peas with some vegan mixes and asked for the only main dish that was on the menu as the main course, and then the surprise came, they didn't have it but instead they offered another starter, that I also refused because I didn't want to have two starters as a main course. Although they told me the chef said that the bred is vegan so they can bring me so. Really, the chef thought it was a good idea to make such a remark about the bread being vegan. I think that was offensive completing the fact that they don't actually have a proper offer for someone who can't eat meat, such as I.
In conclusion I can't recommend this restaurant because of the misleading information, lack of products and...
Read moreMy flat white coffee was overly bitter (I suspect they need to dial in their machine a bit more thoroughly) but the mimosa was a very generous size and the food was ok.
I was pretty frustrated after I left though and studied my bill a bit closer... When I asked for the bill I asked directly if it was possible to tip on card, the server then manually added 1000 huf for me and I paid. Then I realised that there was a service fee already included in the bill. I now know that a service fee is quite normal in Budapest but it would have been appreciated if the server could have mentioned it before letting me add extra tip on top. I recognise that this was my mistake not to check the bill closely, but having worked in gastronomy for many years I know that I would have given my guests a heads up on this one (especially those who are clearly visiting and might not be aware of the norms).
Also when asked if I wanted water, I specified tap water only. I was brought a bottle of unlabelled water with no cap which I assumed was from the tap and therefore free, but I have since realised I was also billed for this!
The view and the setting is lovely but I would be a bit more careful when going back here and wouldn't bother...
