While the food was great, I was quite disappointed by the less than attentive service. In an average Hungarian restaurant, it would most likely be the norm, but in this price category and in case of a Michelin recommended place, I find it unacceptable. Since our server didn't check on us at all, we had to wait to get a second drink only when we finished our main dishes and the plates were taken away. When we finally got them, one of the drink was not what we ordered, which we politely mentioned to the server, who then went to exchange it in a visibly annoyed manner (of course without a word of apology). After that, he didn't come to our table at all, didn't ask if we wanted a desert, and the empty glasses from previous drinks stayed with us until we left the restaurant. Even in Kőbánya felső resti they pick up empty glasses, is it too much to expect it from a Michelin level restaurant? All in all, the place looks lovely and the food is delicious, but there's a lot to be improved. It's the details that make it or break it, and sadly, I was not impressed, considering the amount we paid (with the underwhelming service being included by default). Please, do better, and I hope to have a better experience sometime in the future.

If you’re looking for a unique dining experience that will satisfy your gastro hungarian cravings, and introduce you to dishes you never realized you needed so desperately in your life (just like the one , looking at you on the picture), run to SZALETLY in Budapest. As you enter the restaurant down the foyer of an alleyway on the cusp of Thokoly Avenue in Zuglo district, you’ll feel like you’ve entered the most quirky gentrified Hungarian Gourmet spot in the city—especially after all the trouble you’ve likely been through to snag a reservation. Upon sitting, you’ll be wrapped around with welcoming vibe, an unexpected but delightful face recognition . (if is your many times around)Menu items are made just exquisitely unique —sharing is the last thing you’ll want to do with most of these dishes— surprisingly well-priced assortment of very high quality bites. Every dish here was a hit down to the desserts. This place a mouthwatering exceptional quality choice for a uniquely healthy and delicious dinner. Accompanied with the highest service provided by the Team of Szaletly and headed by a Brilliant Chef Daniel Bernat !!! You Guys Rock ! Thank you ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We had a wonderful evening at Szaletly enjoying their 5-course tasting menu with wine pairing. The experience was both creative and well-balanced, showcasing Hungarian ingredients with a refined twist. Highlights included the fatty duck liver pâté with raspberry honey pear cream and hazelnut cake, paired beautifully with an organic Eger Star Superior. The slow-cooked beef flank steak with potato salad and red onion was tender and deeply flavorful, matched with a crisp Siller from Etyek. The refreshing cold baked cherry soup offered a playful intermezzo before the star dish, venison loin “Deer under the trees,” served with celery cream, hazelnut crisp, and verjus velouté — an excellent pairing with the elegant NJK from Eger. For dessert, the “All Chocolate” trio was indulgent yet balanced, especially with the spiced plum granita and a glass of Heiwa Shuzo Soup Umeshu. The atmosphere is relaxed, the service attentive, and the overall value quite good (5-course menu at 18,900 HUF with wine pairing at 9,900 HUF). A fine place to enjoy a modern Hungarian tasting journey without the formality of high-end fine dining.

Our visit to Szaletly for a special occasion was met with a mix of highs and lows. Opting for the degustation menu, we were excited to experience the creativity and flavors the restaurant is known for. However, the overall execution left us wanting more.

One of the first issues we encountered was the lack of consistency in service. Throughout the evening, we were served by four different waitstaff, which disrupted the flow and personal touch of the experience. Additionally, we found ourselves needing to ask them to slow down the pacing of the courses. A six-course menu, especially one with intricate dishes, requires time to savor and appreciate. Rushing through with minimal pauses between dishes can overshadow the effort and complexity put into the meal.

Another challenge was the lack of clear communication about the dishes. With a 12-item menu, it can be difficult to recall every component, and we had to ask the staff to clarify each dish as it arrived. A more seamless explanation or printed guide for the courses could have made this aspect more enjoyable.

As for the food, there were highs but also noticeable misses. The pumpkin soup, for instance, was overly oily, with leek dominating the flavor profile, leaving little trace of pumpkin. I had read similar feedback previously but assumed it was a one-time issue—unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The desserts, while visually stunning, leaned excessively on sweetness, lacking balance and nuance.

Paying €130 for two at a Michelin Guide restaurant is undeniably a competitive price point. However, when the service and pacing don’t match the quality of the food, even a “reasonable” price can feel steep. A degustation menu is about the overall journey, and if the experience falters, it risks diminishing the enjoyment of even the best dishes.

While Szaletly has potential and some truly delicious creations, the rushed service and inconsistencies prevented it from being the memorable evening we...

We had our wedding anniversary dinner here. When we stepped inside the waiting area two lovely kids of the manager said good evening to us and we had a small chat with the kids, so the first impression was amazing, thanks to them.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is like you arrive a semi Scandinavian living room. Simple but nice materials, nice waiting area with cozy coach, cool kids corner, nice deli section. Art I mean paintings on the wall, a lot plants everywhere so basically the interior is really nice and cozy.

The staff is very polite and prompt. We just sat and we got the menu & drink card, and some kindly recommendations. We did our homework and checked the menu on their website, so we knew what we want to try out. The place was pretty full because of the severe thunder outside (usually in summertime you will be seated outside). We got our drinks pretty fast, and after couple of minutes we got our tasty and delicious food. I won't tell you what we had ordered let's try our many things you won't be disappointed.

Food was delicious with many textures and layers of tastes. The pre and main course was really fine. In my opinion the desserts were fine but just a tiny bit is missing to be perfect.

If you are a vegetarian or vegan you will find your options even they have a wide range of beverages and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and cocktails also.

Price / value is good. Highly recommended for stop or try out if you visiting Budapest.

The restaurant is easy to approach by public transportation it is easy to come from the centrum via bus line"8A" or even by car. There is plenty paid parking spots in the evening, or daytime in the streets of the neighborhood.

If you come for a lunch, after you can do a nice walk in the park of Városliget, then check our the new museums as well.

We have enjoyed our time at Szaletly and definitely will come back soon thank you for the staff and for the...
