If you’re looking for a unique dining experience that will satisfy your gastro hungarian cravings, and introduce you to dishes you never realized you needed so desperately in your life (just like the one , looking at you on the picture), run to SZALETLY in Budapest. As you enter the restaurant down the foyer of an alleyway on the cusp of Thokoly Avenue in Zuglo district, you’ll feel like you’ve entered the most quirky gentrified Hungarian Gourmet spot in the city—especially after all the trouble you’ve likely been through to snag a reservation. Upon sitting, you’ll be wrapped around with welcoming vibe, an unexpected but delightful face recognition . (if is your many times around)Menu items are made just exquisitely unique —sharing is the last thing you’ll want to do with most of these dishes— surprisingly well-priced assortment of very high quality bites. Every dish here was a hit down to the desserts. This place a mouthwatering exceptional quality choice for a uniquely healthy and delicious dinner. Accompanied with the highest service provided by the Team of Szaletly and headed by a Brilliant Chef Daniel Bernat !!! You Guys Rock ! Thank you ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The ambience & service are superb 10/10 The white Hungarian wine from Badacsony was recommended by the friendly young male waiter and it complimented the food perfectly 10/10 The starter, a dish of slices of pumpkin on a mini lake of orange, yellow and green liquids I did not like. The pumpkin was hard and the flavours didn't mix well. That it came with raw carrots was even stranger because near raw pumpkin and raw carrot don't go well together (taste is subjective. Others might like it). I give it a 6/10 The 'sunday chicken' was tasty with an interesting sauce 9/10 The tarte tatin was nice but I would prefer one that has a more generous serving of sour cream and a more buttery flavour to the apples 8/10 The total score is 10 + 10 + 6 + 9 + 8 = 43/50 = 4.3 / 5 The young lady that brought the bill to the table informed me that service charge was included in the bill which I appreciated hence I added 7.5% of the cost of the meal in cash as a token of gratitude for the lovely service.

While the food was great, I was quite disappointed by the less than attentive service. In an average Hungarian restaurant, it would most likely be the norm, but in this price category and in case of a Michelin recommended place, I find it unacceptable. Since our server didn't check on us at all, we had to wait to get a second drink only when we finished our main dishes and the plates were taken away. When we finally got them, one of the drink was not what we ordered, which we politely mentioned to the server, who then went to exchange it in a visibly annoyed manner (of course without a word of apology). After that, he didn't come to our table at all, didn't ask if we wanted a desert, and the empty glasses from previous drinks stayed with us until we left the restaurant. Even in Kőbánya felső resti they pick up empty glasses, is it too much to expect it from a Michelin level restaurant? All in all, the place looks lovely and the food is delicious, but there's a lot to be improved. It's the details that make it or break it, and sadly, I was not impressed, considering the amount we paid (with the underwhelming service being included by default). Please, do better, and I hope to have a better experience sometime in the future.

I recently visited this place and was very disappointed. The starter was fine, but the main course, venison, was overcooked and dry, lacking flavor or tenderness. The staff made the experience even worse. They were cold and grumpy from the moment we walked in, making us feel very unwelcome. Especially the waitress who took our orders looked so unhappy that I can feel she didn’t want to work at all. This attitude continued throughout the meal and really put a damper on the evening. Moreover, the prices were outrageously high given the poor quality of both the food and service. I don't mind paying more for a great dining experience, but this was far from it. To make matters worse, when we left, the staff didn't even bother to say thank you or goodbye. This basic courtesy was completely lacking. Overall, I would recommend avoiding this place. With the combination of overcooked food, unfriendly staff, and high prices, there are plenty of other restaurants that offer a much better experience.

Was left disappointed. The food did not meet my expectations. For starters we ordered the black pudding and the beetroot with cheese. While the flavors were ok, they failed to make any impression. Additionally, for the beetroot starter, the portion was ridiculously small and both dishes did not seem complex enough to execute to justify that. For mains, my friend ordered the autumn style venison, which was the most decent dish, while I got the venison stroganoff which lacked in many aspects. The ingredients were chopped in fine pieces, close to being minced, which was a set off in texture. It was accompanied by a slice of toasted bread and one steamed dumpling. This combination did not make any sense. Lastly, their version of crepe suzette failed to match the original one. Staff was OK, but did not add anything to the experience and they also did not seem to care sitting us on a table next to a rack stacked with coats which reduced my space and movements.

It is necessary to make a reservation in advance to ensure that you have a table when you go to Szaletly. (I booked online and received confirmation via email). The restaurant is located near the leisure area of Pest, next to a large park, with wonderful imperial buildings, churches, museums, ice rink, etc. It doesn't have its own parking lot, you have to park on the street. Better go by taxi, that way you can also take an alcoholic drink. The food is not as diverse as you would expect, but it is very well cooked. And the service is impeccable, by attentive waiters, helpful if you ask for details about the products. The atmosphere I assume can vary depending on the time of day, season, etc. We went on an evening when the restaurant was full, so it was a bit noisy. It's not a cheap restaurant, but it's worth indulging if you're still in that area of Budapest.
