Tortuga és Pohánka — Restaurant in Budapest

I visited this bakery while spending time with family. I purchased a few pastries for $7.50, but they charged me $75 instead. This was more than we spent on anything else during our entire two-week stay. When I went back an hour later and spoke to the owner, they offered to "make it right" by giving us bread until the $75 overcharge was balanced out. That’s absolutely ridiculous—especially considering I wasn’t staying in the area for long, and the food was sub-par.

Afterward, we agreed over Instagram (they couldn’t even email me like a proper business) that they would refund my money. However, they claimed they couldn’t figure out how to process a refund and then stopped responding entirely. I had to file a claim with my bank, which eventually resolved the issue.

But then, the bakery disputed the claim, insisting they had charged me correctly—$75 for a few pastries! This level of dishonesty and fraud is shocking. What should have been a simple issue to fix turned into a drawn-out battle lasting months.

I’m including proof of what I ordered and the amount charged, so there’s no denying it was their mistake. They need to own up to it. I strongly recommend avoiding this place...

Started great but shows signs of decline..

I'm a bread lover. Since I've discovered this place back in Feb I've probably spent about 150k in this establishment as I really love all their bakery products, however I've noticed recently that prices have increased, quality has dropped, and on top of that, the sizes also became smaller.

I understand the inflationary situation that we all live in but I find it unacceptable to both reduce the size (e.g. the baguette/kalacs sizes have shrunk vs how it used to be) and reduce the quality (e.g. the csokis parna used to be fluffy and flaky and now is only an illusion of its glorious past) and on top of all that increase the prices of the products.

For instance, the bagguette prices has been increased by 25% within the month of July from 400 to 500. Shocking - but I would have understand it, if at least the size was kept the same.

Tip for consideration : Increase the prices further if you feel is justified (that is fine for me, I get it), but please maintain the previous size and quality! We are not coming to Tortuga & Pohanka for cheap prices but for quality tasting fulfilling...

And let's talk about the pastries...oh my goodness. It's like each one was crafted by a magical pastry wizard who sprinkled love and happiness into every delicious bite. Seriously, I don't know what kind of wizardry is going on in that kitchen, but I'm here for it. Support local businesses and treat yo' self at this amazing bakery. Your taste buds (and soul)...
