I came here a couple or years ago on my first visit to Iceland. I remembered it being fun and good value, with tasty food. This time around, I was travelling with my partner, and spent a long time hyping this place up. We rocked up, excited for a burger, only to find them closed for refurbishment. Not to worry, we found somewhere else and returned the next day once they had reopened. We were greeted at the door and offered the bar to sit at. I like how they're happy for you to eat at the bar, instead of just drink. I ordered 'The Other Lebowski' burger, and my partner ordered 'The Donny'. Both as meals with chips and a drink. The burger was moist, dirty, messy to eat and packed full of sauce. So in other words, everything you want from a damn good burger. It hit all the right spots and we definitely left feeling full. Happy hour is between 1600-1900 every day, so after our meal we treated ourselves to some wine/rose. Now I'm not a pretensious wine snob, so my verdict probably accounts to very little, but I thought the wine was pretty good. Didn't taste cheap at all. The service behind the bar was quick and efficient, which just made for a much nicer experience. I'm glad I got a chance to come back, and to share this place with my girlfriend. I'd also go as far as saying that this was probably the most affordable place to eat out as well if you're looking for a proper burger meal. I needed a dirty burger and that's exactly what I go.

So, I moseyed into this joint, Lebowski Bar in Iceland, and let me tell ya, it really tied the room together, man. It's like walking into our movie set, but with a cool Icelandic twist. The décor’s got this bowling alley vibe, and it’s far out, man. The bar, well, it's a haven for all us Dudes out there. They’ve got this menu of White Russians - my kinda beverage, man. I tried a few, and each was as good as a sunny day in L.A. Smooth, creamy, hits the spot – it’s good knowing they’re out there, takin’ ‘er easy for all us sinners. The grub here, man, it’s just what you need when the munchies hit after a few rounds of bowling. Good burgers, the kind that really fill you up. And the tunes, let's just say the music abides. You feel like you’re right back in the ‘90s, just takin’ it easy, enjoyin' the sounds. Now, the folks here, they’re a friendly bunch. They don’t treat you like just another customer, but more like a comrade in arms, part of the whole durned human comedy. It's a great place to chill, let your hair down, or you know, whatever story comforts you. If you ever find yourself wandering in Reykjavik, lookin’ for a place to take it easy, drop by the Lebowski Bar. It’s a cool spot to meet fellow Achievers, have a few laughs, and enjoy a good White Russian. After all, the Dude abides, and so does this place. Peace out, man.

Like everywhere in Iceland compared to the UK, its expensive but thats just how you have to roll in Iceland. We had been sourcing a place for lunch and came across this american themed diner/bar with good reviews and a seemingly decent burger, fries and soda meal deal for 2750 Kr. Thats just over £16 and with the option for an upgrade to a beer for 1000 kr (Icelandic Gull , which to be fair is pretty decent) and also a kids similar deal, minus the beer upgrade option of course. There are a good selection of burgers to choose from and a veggie option is available too. We went for meat options and were not offered the option of how we wanted it cooked, which should in my opinion have been an option. It came in a basket, a wrapped burger with fries on the side, American style. On unwrapping the burger, the buns were soggy as the burger was very moist. A bite into the burger explained why, it may as well have been still mooing. It was rare and as such juicy. Coming from the UK where they tell us to thoroughly cook burgers I can see this being an issue for many and it was for some of my party. Even for me it was a bit on the underdone side and I am firmly in the rare stake camp (bit different with ground meats however). I did ask the waitress if it should be that pink and was reassured that is how they cook them and not to worry. The offering of how a person would like their burger cooked would be good here. As not everyone wants it mooing. It was however, rare and soggy bun aside, a tasty burger and a decent size. The fries were good, although there could have been more of them for the price. Contrary to many reviews the service was OK. Nothing special but it did the job. Certainly nothing to criticise. The venue itself is cute and quirky. We sat in the back where there is a big screen to watch what ever film they have one, for hs it was Braveheart, I did do a skip down the road after shouting Freedom!, I have to say though in late October when they open the back door its bloody freezing, even for a Yorkshireman. That is something they need to address. Theres a couple of other zones as well that help you feel like you are in an experience. I certainly didnt feel lebowski but it was welcoming. All in all it was an OK experience but nothing to write home about. We certainly wouldnt return for a second time. Over priced for what it is, but that is not their fault and being honest a Macci D's would have been better. That said it was one of the cheaper options for lunch and was cheaper than the local subway, offering much more for the price. Over all rating was it was OK.

I got “The Walter” and asked for the bacon to be crispy and the meat well done. They brought me the wrong sandwich at first, I believe it was the one with bernaise sauce. I honestly would’ve have know had the meat nkt been rare and I went up and asked for them to put it back on. He then realized he gave my husband and I the wrong meals. They went back to get mine and I asked if it would be well done and he said yes. When they brought it out to me, the toppings were correct but the burger was still medium rare. Had the burger been cooked the way I asked I would have given the food 5 starts. The White Russians were AMAZING - highly recommend. The negatives (other than receiving wrong food and being undercooked) - they were playing silence of the lambs which just don’t usually mind but it was on this massive screen behind me and the blood and eating the guys brain was a bit off putting while trying to eat. Also, the bathroom was downstairs and was one of the rankest smelling bathrooms I’ve ever experienced- smells like someone just peed everywhere, and not just inside the bathroom, the whole downstairs going to the bathroom . I felt transported to a bathroom in a college frat house. Thankfully I was done eating because it made my stomach turn and I would’ve completely lost my appetite.

To quote my pre-teen “the food at that place is pretty good.” 😊 I was expecting some Lebowski-related kitsch and clever food names but instead got… the Big Lebowski. We actually ate here two days in a row. The first day we had lunch a couple hours earlier and were just going for novelty. The second day we were starving and had a full meal. The banana White Russian my wife had was on point, the veggie burger (The Stranger) I had was one of my top 10 best ever. The milkshakes are also amazing. Add to that, everywhere you look is some kind of clever Lebowski reference. As someone that loves the film, this was just the cherry on top. Our server on the second day was better than the first, though they weren’t quite as busy, so they had more time to devote to us (Saturday afternoon versus Sunday lunch). All told, if you love the film and want good food, check it out. Side note: only speaking English was no problem at all, the staff was all very fluent.

Ok. Full disclosure. I'm a huge fan of the movie, The Big Lebowski. I first noticed the place about 3 years ago, but there was no time to stop. This trip to Iceland however.... We go in around lunchtime, and were made welcome. The interior decor is well done, totally in keeping with the theme, with some cool items. Even the basement and toilets maintain the theme. There is a focus on The Dude's drink of choice, and of course I had to have one. We had an excellent burger and fries, and also some good chicken wings. The atmosphere is perfect, the service is friendly, and the food and drink is good too. If you are in Reykjavik, and have seen the movie, go check this place out. If you have not seen the movie, then remedy this personal deficiency immediately, and THEN go check out this bar... Or just check the place out, and then watch the movie and you will have lots of "ah-haaa' moments!
