It is a truly magnificent sculpture, situated in a breathtaking location along the edge of Reykjavik with absolutely stunning views of the ocean. I read reviews wishing it to be illuminated during night.. Saw photos where it was dark.. Vice versa I wished it to be dark during Northern lights covering sky behind the statue 😁 it was covered by light that is why it was not possible to catch it nicely on the photo together with Northern lights.. Also 2 troll ignorant people were standing in front of statue the whole hour enjoying northern lights.. To the joy of +-ten photographers trying to catch the beauty (groups of photographers kept changing seeing there will not be nice catch tonight because troll people did not respond to any human begging effort asking them politely to reposition their bodies 10 meters away 🙂)

This is one of the more modern sights in Iceland. Relatively new it still is iconic already and popular. Originally it was built to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the city of Reykjavík. The Sun Voyager was unveiled on Sæbraut on the birthday of the city of Reykjavík, August 18th, 1990. It is a pretty sight, with the city or the water and the hills in the back. Depending on the angle. It's a nice little walk here along the water. A peaceful, quiet walk without many visitors. But here at the sculpture they all come together. But we were here pretty early in the morning around 9.30am. Some people, but easy to get some got shots of the impressive sculpture. So, if you're in Reyjkavik, then surely this is a must-see.

Sólfar / Sun Voyager is not yet another piece of art. Like many even I had a misconception that it represented the Vikings’ journey towards Iceland, but it’s not. Lot of thought went behind the design and concept. It actually represents a sun ship and a promise of new and undiscovered territory. If you want to read about the concept and story that inspired the artist to create this masterpiece, head over to sunvoyager.is, where it’s beautifully explained. Located quite close to Harpa concert hall, it’s easily walkable from there. As you walk, you will have an amazing view of ocean and mountains on the side! When in Reykjavik, don’t miss out on this creative steel art, located on the coast of Iceland.

Great little spot to take in the views. The Sun Voyager is such a well designed piece of art, that fits beautifully into the surrounding area. The promenade that passes it is a great spot to take in some fresh Icelandic air, take a scooter ride, walk along to the marina or simply stop and capture some images. We have really enjoyed seeing other peoples images on here too. There’s some stunning ones that people have kindly shared. A tip if walking in the evening is to head to the marina just beyond the beautiful Harpa Concert Hall, then make a turn southbound, heading all the way to Björgun úr sjávarháska. It’s a bit of a trek, but we caught a sunset there and it was worth every step.
