We visited Mama Reykjavik our first night in the city and were blown away by the lovely atmosphere and flavorful food. We got the Dahl ala Mama, the Mama Curry, and the naan, each of which were delicious. We decided to return today, and unfortunately were extremely disappointed, mostly by the service. It took more than 5 minutes for the host/server to finish her conversation in front of us before acknowledging our presence. We ordered 4 things, two of which were changed due to them not having them ready (which was initially fine- we understood as it was just after they opened); however, once we did get our food, every single item was incorrect, even the switches they had suggested. I couldn’t get our servers attention and had to go find her to ask. It was then realized that my bowl had been made into a wrap instead for my husband, and his wrap (which had already been changed from the Dahl wrap to Mama Africa at their suggestion due to the food not being ready) had been served to me as a bowl. They quickly corrected this issue and brought what I ordered, but not my husband what he ordered. The server then finally made and brought the hot drinks we had been hoping to enjoy while waiting on our food. It was a very disenchanting experience after the first visit, especially as we were the only patrons in the restaurant to be tended to. We were brought two bliss balls as an apology, but would have rathered a discount on the bill. However, the food was high quality and delicious and I would go...
Read moreMama’s food is astonishingly good. I me the owners months ago and when I went to say hi and know their place I tried a slice of cake called orgasm. Well, it has that name for a reason. I was eating slow because I didn’t want it to finish too quickly. Yesterday I went back for lunch and I tried one dish called Dahl a la mama, a lentil based combination of flavors and tastes that reminded me thai food, but at the same time has its own identity and uniqueness. I am not vegan because I still struggle taking eggs and dairy off my diet, but such delicious tasty food is encouraging. The main course options on the menu are not many, but the food is always freshly made, plus: there’s also a wide range of coffees, teas, infusions, cakes which make Mama perfect for any moment of the day. The venue is cozy and beautiful, the staff sweet and kind and my whole lunch experience was a moment of pleasure and self-care that literally made my day. I expected it ti be good, but it went above and beyond, I was blown away and I can’t wait ti go back. Let’s consider that Icelandic traditional cuisine has meat in pretty much everything, so if you’re vegan, you’re lucky to have this option. Thank you, Mama people, I am fond of...

everything about the environment was warm and welcoming from the time I arrived to the time that I left. I had Mama Curry, Dhal a la Mama, and a peanut butter raspberry jam cake, all of which I will be dreaming about for days! Truly delicious and, most importantly, tasted like it was made by people who care about nourishing, quality ingredients (Bodhi is incredible!)
not to mention the beautiful decor, thriving plants, warm colors, soothing music and spiritual reminders that filled the space and made it so cozy that I ended up staying for hours just to read on a couch
And finally, just as I left, I met part of the team that brought the beautiful place to life. They all genuinely reflected exactly what the environment and meals suggested- that you were in a place with people who were prioritizing their care for other humans by designing an experience that was both satisfying and nourishing to the senses and the soul. They truly seemed to be community focused, and I wish I could’ve spoken to them for hours!
so grateful that the single sit-down dining experience I had in Iceland was at this restaurant, and I’ll surely be back on...
