Wonderful hotel in an excellent location. The hotel looks like an English manor with plush seating, historical pictures and artwork of old fashioned cuffs and cufflinks on the wall. When you walk outside, you are in a lovely shopping, restaurant area that reminded me of the cruise ports area. Right outside is a hot dog stand that gets a lot of business. For an equivalent of $5 (you can pay by credit card), if you get the hot dog with the works, it has mustard and a brown sweet sauce and onions. I really liked the different flavor, although my husband didn't.
Location: Two doors to enter but they are rather subtle and don't scream Hilton when you approach, so I am glad the driver found us. No on-site parking. Less than a 3 minute walk to Bus Stop #3 Lækjargata which is where airport buses can drop you off or you can be picked up for an excursion such as with Reykjavik Excursions. Also, a Grey Line office in near-by. Short walk to waterfront to see the ducks and swans, Rainbow street, Laugavegur main shopping street with a Blue Lagoon store.
Special perks: Two Pellegrino waters and two Iceland waters replaced DAILY in your room's mini-fridge. Two free wines or non-alcoholic drinks DAILY at the bar. As Hilton Gold members, we got the breakfast buffet for free every day. It had scrambled eggs, sunny side up eggs, bacon, cold cuts, cheeses, bread, yogurt, fresh sliced fruit, and make yourself cappuccinos/tea, and apple and orange juice. The hot geothermal water tub in the basement is absolutely wonderful to warm up after a cold day and has a rock wall behind it and tall candles. There is a sauna, a shower, and towels. There is water, but it is warm, so you may want to bring your own water from the fridge.
Room: Bed was very comfortable and room was quiet even with a connecting door. Plenty of European outlets. Espresso maker and tea, creamer, and sugar in the room! Bathrobes and slippers at the top of the closet. Safe. Lighted magnifying mirror but it was on the countertop, so you had to bend down to see and the light was super bright on your eyes. Excellent, strong hair dryer. L'Occitane bath products really elevated the experience.
Only negative was the room was really warm, even when we turn down the heat, turned on the cool air which didn't work in the Winter. Finally, we had to open our window (push the button on the hinge) to let in cold air to be able to sleep.
Staff was always friendly, patient, and helpful even asking...
Read moreHad a one night stay here with two rooms . The receptionist gave both a Diamond upgrade to a King Deluxe, and when I asked for one of the rooms to have two beds, she very quickly arranged that. We were offered the minibar, a gourmet chocolate bar, use of the bathhouse, and an invite for evening drinks at the Konsúlat Wine Room. That's generally how Curios go; they stay low key in the neighborhoods they're in (except for the ones built on man-made islands). This lobby feels like I'm in a game of Clue, and a murder mystery is about to unfold in the study. The elevator is dark. ||After a perfect check-in (I mean, what more can you ask for?), I'm in Room 304, situated right above the hot dog stand. The room is very cozy, with street facing windows large enough to step out of. There is a couch to chill on, bathrobes, and slippers. The minibar was a very generous offering, though we did not partake. The second room, 308, is similar, with the beds separated by about 10cm. The toilet has a door, but the shower doesn't. Not that it needs one. I took three showers in 16 hours. It may have healing properties.||The hotel is in a prime location to explore the city from. The street was very quiet on a gorgeous Reykjavik summer Sunday. I was not disturbed at all by the ever present hot dog stand queue. ||I've been so enamored with the Curio brand, and the individuality that each property has to offer in their respective cities. The Konsúlat Wine Room melds right in the lobby, within a building that blends right into the rest of the street. The decor harkens back to a time of sharp dressed men and women, hat stands, and indoor smoking. The rooms are cozy. The staff here are excellent. One gripe I do have is breakfast. This was the only Curio property I've stayed that did not offer something made to order. I had come to assume that was a brand standard. It leaves me wondering, how are things going at the Iceland Parliament Curio, or even...
