A Stellar Japanese Culinary Journey at Edo, ITC Gardenia
Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)
I recently had the pleasure of visiting ITC Gardenia's Japanese restaurant on a serene weekday night, and I must say, the experience left an indelible mark on my taste buds and heart. From the moment we stepped in, we were warmly welcomed by Roopa, who gracefully led us to our table and introduced us to the delightful menu.
The array of choices was impressive, and we decided to indulge in some classic Japanese dishes. We ordered Sushi, Miso Soup, Udon Noodles, Yatsai Fry, and Japanese Cake. The dishes were not only exquisitely presented but also bursting with authentic flavors that transported us straight to Japan. It was evident that every dish was cooked to perfection using fresh ingredients, making the entire dining experience truly remarkable.
Biswajit, the talented chef at ITC Gardenia, made our visit even more memorable. He graciously took the time to greet us personally and shared his passion for crafting authentic Japanese cuisine. We were fortunate to witness his expertise and dedication first-hand as he prepared our meal. Biswajit went above and beyond his duty, making sure we felt at home and well-informed about the dishes we were about to savor.
Notably, the Sushi Bar was a sight to behold. Biswajit proudly showcased the fresh and vibrant ingredients used in the preparation of their sushi, leaving us in awe of the artistry involved in this culinary craft.
The restaurant's ambiance was soothing, creating a serene atmosphere perfect for a relaxed dining experience. The cleanliness and hygiene standards were commendable, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to providing a safe and pleasant environment for their guests.
In conclusion, our visit to ITC Gardenia's Japanese restaurant was nothing short of extraordinary. The delightful dishes, expertly prepared by Biswajit, combined with the warm hospitality extended by Roopa and the entire staff, made it a truly unforgettable evening. If you are a fan of authentic Japanese cuisine or looking to embark on a culinary journey that will delight your senses, ITC Gardenia's Japanese restaurant is an absolute must-visit. The first impression of the restaurant was quite dull. The ambiance was basic, and the restaurant was fairly empty even at dinner time on a Sunday evening. The table we were given was very shaky, so they moved us to an adjacent table. Also, we were not given the menu cards for set and drinks menu. You wouldn't expect such a subpar experience at a large hotel.
Coming to the food, we ordered the set menus Nikko and Nara for ourselves. The food was quite average, except for maybe the Miso soup, none of the other dishes were worth remembering and trying again. They could have explained the dishes they were serving from the set menu instead of us figuring out what was being served and what was left. We felt something was amiss.
We asked the server about the dessert – it was supposed to be Azuki Zensai (Glutinous rice cake served with azuki beans and black sesame ice cream). However, it only had the beans and the black sesame ice cream, and the rice cake was missing. Strangely, the server pointed to the beans and said that was the rice cake. It was amusing how the servers were clueless about the dishes and infuriating that a restaurant in a five-star hotel provides such substandard service.
I'd not recommend this place, given there are better options...

We actually visited Edo in July of 2022. Quite possibly one of the best Japanese restaurants in Bengaluru alongside Azukii Bistro.
Food: The food was authentic (Japanese). We had two sets: Nikko (Vegetarian) and Tokyo (Non-Vegetarian). The 'Tokyo' set came with starters such as grilled eel, raw octopus, jellyfish, etc. It was followed by sushi and sashimi (salmon, tuna), tempura (prawn and others), black cod, noodles and lamb, miso soup, desserts, and green tea (matcha).
The jellyfish was quite interesting, it was crunchy, almost like cabbage.
The black cod was so tender and delicious.
The portion size of each course was quite good to be honest.
The desserts were interesting, especially the Green Tea Tiramisu. We also had Japanese Cheesecake and Black Sesame Ice Cream. Miso Semifreddo was missing and we couldn't get it.
Service: Thanks to Pratim, Sony, and Jai for their service and for being patient and polite with us.
Ambience: The ambience was quite good and simple. Not noisy, we could have conversations comfortably.
Coming to the price, it is surely expensive but it is definitely worth it!
Overall, go for it if you wish to try authentic...
