We went to Cubbon Pavilion for a dinner buffet, and upon entering the hotel the roof of the porch had literally cracked and the rain was pouring into the lobby thus flooding the whole of it and beyond (see pics). While having your shoes and clothes soaked in water is not just unbecoming of a five star hotel (or any place for that matter), what was more surprising was that the hotel staff didn’t even seem to do anything to fix it considering people could have very likely slipped and fallen in the flood thus injuring themselves. Coming to the restaurant itself, Cubbon Pavilion has never had it going for itself as far the ambience is concerned- it’s built to an outdated design and all the buffet counters are constricted in one tiny area which, in the absence of interactive buffet displays of the 2010s, makes the buffet look even smaller than it was. As for the food, here’s the catch- right now the restaurant is putting up buffets at the price of ₹1200 plus taxes for dinner, and hence while you’d expect a reduced spread given the lower than usual price, what we got was a rip-off even at that price point. For example, there was no more than 1 chicken dish in the whole buffet (that’s right), and while the spread of Indian and Chinese dishes was heavily inadequate and rather what you’d expect from a 3 star hotel, other cuisines were non-existent. They had a live counter serving chaats and 2 starters but even the starter that came out was burnt. The desserts were the only saving grace, both in terms of quality as well as quantity, but they were supposed to have ice-cream as part of the buffet and this was not stocked and they even refused the same to people who asked, until finally stocking it 2 hours later. Coming to the service, here’s what you need to know- they try to reduce touch and interaction with the buffet items by having transparent partitions separating guests from the buffet meaning you need a server to serve you every dish over the partition. I would not have complained about this if this was efficiently managed (as one would expect), but they literally had 2 servers serving dishes of the entire buffet at a restaurant that was overbooked for the night. What’s more? These servers were mind-numbingly untrained in both serving dishes (they poured them on the partitions instead of the plate) as well as basic human communication (I asked one of them if they had prawns on the buffet and he showed me to the rice and rasam). In general the restaurant was grossly understaffed and it took nothing less than begging the staff at least 4-5 times over a veryyyy long period of time for each of the basic things like bringing dishes from the live stations or even clearing a pile of used plates. There were also other issues like a bee flying inside the dessert enclosure (so much for safety and hygiene) and there being no cutlery for having the soups and desserts. Moreover, even the cutlery was wrapped in thin, cheap paper which had to be torn rather than unsealed resulting in a tornado of paper bits flying around your table with obviously nobody to clear them. At the end of the meal, the staff was kind enough to bring me a cake as we were celebrating my birthday and apologised for the mess, but even an apology doesn’t cut for a disaster of this proportion. So here’s the thing- the hotel tries to portray itself as taking covid precautions very seriously, but given their scant regard for the same such as social distancing given that they’d overbooked the restaurant beyond full capacity on the night, it is no way acceptable to so severely inconvenience guests for what can only be called a charade. What’s funny is that their so called precautions require much higher staff intervention if guests are to not be inconvenienced, but they instead had nowhere close to enough staff to service even a regular buffet. Being still an ITC, hopefully the standards only go higher from here for the future but at least for the present pandemic times, this is a place you’d rather avoid, no matter how tempting the...

Read moreWorst experience in a 5 star ever. I had a reservation for a table of 3 at 7.15 pm and was there promptly. When we arrived the staff didn’t ask if we had a reservation and just told us that they can’t accommodate us. When I mentioned the reservation they seated us. That was just the start. No one provided a menu or filled water for 10 min. We had to call the server to get us the menu. We ordered Ebi tempura, Tori karage, salmon nigiri, 2 different rolls. The food was good, but service was the worst ever. No one filled our glass of water during the entire course of the meal. After finishing our rolls and appetizers we wanted to order more food. We tried calling the servers several times but no one paid attention. There was one large party and small group only in the restaurant, so it wasn’t overly crowded. After calling the servers, we ordered donburi and a pork belly dish. I also requested for some hot sauce to be provided on the side with the donburi. 45 min after ordering, we realized our food hadn’t ever arrived. I called the server again to check on it and he then got it after a few min. No hot sauce was provided. By this time we had been in the restaurant for over 2 hrs and wasn’t in a mood to track down the servers. Water glasses were empty. I wanted to treat my guests with dessert and asked for a menu. I could see the waiter walking around the restaurant (not to any guest) but he didn’t get the menu. After 10 min I got up and asked him if there was a problem and why he didn’t get the menu. I got the menu myself. I also requested to talk to the manager, but he wasn’t of any help. They suggested they would provide a complimentary dessert but my guests and I didn’t want to wait any longer and wanted to get out ASAP.
We paid Rs.7500 for 3 persons for lackluster service and no gratitude. Worst...
