Today we tried this restaurant again to get a better feel of the food served.
While we had visited them earlier, we did not feel that great in whole, but this visit changed our feel of the place.
We could try the their best of the food, and I would say this is one of the best place serving Japanese cuisine.
We were taken care of, they suggested the best dishes, and we enjoyed it from the start till the end.
This time we tried : Sashimi Monawase - never had Raw fish earlier, this one changed my complete view off it - 5/5 Tekka maki - 5/5 Chasu Pork - 5/5 (should be tried) Katsu Minced meat - very crispy and with great filling - 5/5 Patian Ramen - 5/5 Chahan seafood - never had such great fried sticky rice - 5/5
Drinks Midori fizz - 5/5 Yuzu Kampai - 5/5 Mango Sumuji - 4/5 Fuyu - 5/5
I would recommend this place a 100%.
Below was my review on an earlier date, and now I have changed my review of the place with full heart and satisfaction.
Hats off to Mr. Thomas and for being such a great host.
Sunday Lunch at Izanagi – A Taste of Japanese Cuisine
This Sunday, we decided to try Japanese food and headed to Izanagi in Indiranagar. Located on the 100ft road, it’s easy to spot, being road-facing.
The ambiance is inviting, with neatly arranged seating and a separate café section. We arrived around 1:30 PM, and though a few tables were occupied, we were promptly seated across from the bar counter. The staff welcomed us with water and menus, giving us time to browse the options.
Being our first visit, we wanted to explore the menu extensively. We ordered four starters:
• Gyoza Buta (Pork Dumplings): 3/5 • Ebi Tempura (Prawns): 3/5 • Butashogayaki (Ginger Pork): 4/5 • Ebi Fry Maki (Sushi): 4/5
For the main course, we had Yaki Udon (Chicken Noodles): 3/5. While the food was served promptly, the main course did take a bit longer. Everything was good, but none of the dishes stood out as particularly memorable. The accompanying wasabi could’ve been stronger.
For drinks, we tried:
• Aki (Orange-Grapes Drink): 4/5 • Kimochi (Wasabi-Based Drink): 3/5
Service: While the staff was courteous, we had to call them over to place our orders for the main course and drinks, which could have been smoother. Given the low number of customers, more attention to table service would have been appreciated. I’ve heard good things about Thomas, often praised in other reviews, and it seems his absence may affect the overall service experience. Staff training could address this gap.
Parking: Valet service is available, though after lunch, the valet handed us the key and asked us to retrieve the car from across the road. Ambience: 5/5 Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Washrooms: 5/5

Read moreTo be fair the food here was okay and some aspects were even good, but the rating is skewed by the desserts, which are a complete abomination and should never have part of the menu or served.
We first had the tantamen chicken ramen. We were disappointed that the ramen came with no toppings like fresh veggies or egg which is usually enjoyable with ramen. We also found out that this ramen does not come with chicken chunks or pieces but chicken mince, which gets fully mixed in the liquid. There was no warning on the menu and the waiter also didn't not mention this to us. He recommended this item. However the taste of the soup part itself was kind of spicy and very good.
Next we tried the Unagi maki (grilled eel in rice and seaweed wrap sushi). It came in a heart shape presentation, which was nice, but it felt like the pieces were made smaller to fit this shape. It felt gimmicky and like a trick to reduce the portion size, because we always get more in a circular shape, and the amount of each bite was quite small. However, the taste of the eel sushi itself was good, and we could taste the eel sufficiently.
Next we got two desserts - the japanese cheesecake and the mitarashi dango.
I absolutely regret ordering these, these should not exist on the menu.
The cheesecake was very eggy, like how it would be if you attempted to make this at home. But it was tolerable.
The mitarashi dango was an absolute disaster. It felt like the chef gave up in the middle of the process of making the glutinous rice balls and decided to shape it and serve. The dango rice balls are supposed to be chewy and glutinous, but what we received felt like they made a rice ball similar to local pundi dish or kerala rice ball recipe, which is made from pouring boiling water into rice flour and shaping it, and you can just bite and eat like a steamed momo.
Over-all feedback:
Food - Pricing is okay, but description should be thorough. Have photos on menu to avoid disappointments (no toppings on ramen, chicken mince used in ramen) Sushi quantity/size needs to be increased or gimmicky heart shape needs to be discontinued.
Desserts- Hire a better chef or completely discontinue this section. Pricing was okay.
Also, we had this moment were we were eagerly and excitedly waiting for our...
Read moreI am absolutely outraged by my experience at Izanagi. As a strict vegetarian, both for personal and religious reasons, I explicitly ordered vegetable gyoza—no meat, no exceptions. What was served to me? Chicken. I unknowingly ate it, and only after I had consumed it did the server nonchalantly approach me and inform me that it was, in fact, chicken. Her attitude was completely careless, as if it was no big deal. The lack of any apology or urgency in addressing the situation was infuriating.
To make matters worse, before I could even demand to speak with a manager, the manager disappeared—completely avoiding any responsibility for this unacceptable mistake. This was not just a mistake, this was a direct violation of my deeply held beliefs, and to top it off, I was treated as if it wasn’t important. This carelessness is unforgivable.
Serving someone food that goes against their religious and personal dietary choices is an inexcusable betrayal of trust. The lack of accountability, the utter disregard for my values, and the complete lack of care displayed by the staff left me absolutely disgusted. This wasn’t a minor error—it was a blatant disrespect of who I am.
I am fuming. This experience ruined my pre-birthday lunch and left me feeling violated. I will never step foot in this restaurant again, and I strongly warn anyone who follows a vegetarian diet to stay far away from this place. If they can’t even manage something as simple as getting a vegetarian dish right, they do not deserve...
