Update: 2022.07.20 I went there for Coffee after a long time and noticed that sugar was kept in an "open bowl" on "footpath" next to a diesel generator with a few "coffee stains" and "honey bees" in it (photos attached).
When I approached the two people at the billing counter to come and take a look at the bowl, they didn't even move from their seat and said that's the way things are. When I requested for a spoonful of clean sugar from kitchen, they said whatever was in the bowl was the only thing I could get. Maybe, I was the only one with that experience. But, I am not going there in the near future for another bitter experience or a bitter coffee.
I sincerely hope they step up to make their Coffee worthy paying ₹30 and hope it is not too late for them. (Review from 2020) I go to this place just for their coffee and their coffee deserves a full 5-Star rating. I believe 9 out of 10 people entering their premise do so for their coffee alone. The sugarless (that's how the Coffee is served by default) - less-sugar (that's the liberty we have to add the quantity of sugar needed) - and sugar-free (availability of sugar-free sweeteners) make the Coffee experiences unique and personal.
It is also a good thing to know that they offer a couple of snacks along with the beverages at a nominal price.
I am also sure (looking at the crowd waiting for their turn) that their breakfast, lunch and dinner options are as tempting as...
Read moreI'll always remember Maiyas as the place I wanted to go every weekend for my breakfast and coffee before they hit bad times. When I came to know that they still operate a dine in restaurant in the adjacent building, it jumped up in my list to go. The entrance to the building was the first clue as to what I should expect. It was just a bland room with shelves with their brand products with no attempt to make any sales. No bakery, no sweets and no outstanding service by staff greeting you with a smile like in the old days. We went up to the dining area and the difference I saw between how I remember the old restaurant and this sank my heart. It's just a big room with basic furniture and threadbare staff. It was early evening and not many customers were sitting there. A wait staff came over once we took our seats next to a window and to my dismay there were no items that I loved... No idly, no vada, no sambar... Had to settle for bonda soup, curd vada and masala dosa. The soup was just as I remember and had the same taste. The dosa was a shadow of how it used to be and we didn't enjoy it as much. Coffee was no longer in a steel tumbler and came in a ceramic cup and was good nevertheless. The staff that were present were good but I missed the overall service in the past. It felt like a fast food joint rather than a family restaurant. The only solace was the views from the window of the beautiful...
Read moreMaiyas... always thought it was an decent and classy restaurant. But my today's experience was very disappointing. Ordered simple masala dosa, took 10 mins to get on table, taste was just ok. Then we asked for by-two filter coffee since we were two. Probably one of the most expensive coffee I've ever paid in this class of restaurant (Rs 50). The coffee was served 10 mins after placing the order. Generally if we ask for by-two, the person who prepares coffee would put in two glasses and serve on the table. Here they gave an empty cup and saucer and we were supposed to do the honours. The worst was, it was cold by the time it came to table and when we asked the guy in the cash counter table (probably the manager), he justified by saying because it's by-two (didn't make any sense). When we asked him to serve again, it came with a few seconds and was hot (as it's supposed to be). The people who served showed lot of attitude as if it's a favor they are doing by serving us. And one more thing, this restaurant is on 1st floor. It looks like a makeshift restaurant and you can see tables and chairs like in a wedding venue. Terrible seating for Maiyas standards. Hope the management takes some action on this outlet. We actually lost appetite looking at our coffees (see the pic).
Frankly any other half-decent restaurant's service would be better than Maiyas 4th Block...
