After a lot of reviews online and lot of hype of about this place, I happened to visit this place hoping for a great lunch. But I was totally disappointed. I was really surprised how people were even liking this place with all the positive reviews on google maps, it might be their perspective. But here's mine.
First of all being named as a coastal cuisine, it doesn't justify it. I mean, none of it tastes really like a coastal cuisine, even at smaller restaurants you can get better coastal food than this.. When I asked the staff about it, they said that this is the style of cooking in the place Maravanthe. So they are following the same way of cooking . But I'm not sure if that's the case.
The price you are paying for the food, it completely doesn't justify it. Way too expensive. Come on, 490 for a prawn ghee roast and what you get is easily countable 9 pieces of prawns in it. You go to be kidding me. Damn prawns aren't that expensive, if that's is for the taste I'm paying for, even it didn't make me satisfied. Those guys were boasting about the fish, sure thing tried one and I felt that I should never be eating fish in my life, that horrible it was. For me I felt that it wasn't fresh at all, they said they purposefully froze the fish to make it delicious, sorry it became even worse.
Next people were talking about neer dosa a lot, really, I don't think they have ever tasted the real version of it being sold in kerala. Their meals, that was a total disaster there as well, I got one chicken meals and a fish meals, they both almost looked identical except for the curry. Fun fact, the curry was even identical, the only thing changed in them was the meat that has gone into it, rest assured they both tasted exactly the same and not even worth compared to food that you can get from a food truck. And quantity that you get is, three small pieces of chicken and one small piece of fish. Really!!!!
If we talk about the price vs quantity vs quality, nothing justifies the price you are paying for. Not visiting this place again. Not gonna...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Maravanthe Coastal Cuisine and o boy it was worth it. I was a bit skeptical to visit this place since it was a bit far from where I stay(Malleshwaram). But then I decided to give it a shot since I had read good reviews about this place and I can say that all those reviews are geniune after I had the food there. For starters, the ambiance is perfect for you to take your family and friends out. The staff are also very courteous. Now, about the food. We were two of us and wanted to try only the sea food this time. We ordered Anjal Tawa Fry, Prawn Ghee Roast, Bangude Rava Fry, Prawn Butter Garlic, Kori Rotti, White Rice with Anjal Pulimunchi. Believe me, this is one of the finest sea food I've had in my life. I've a livid traveller and have had sea food at many places across India. But this meal has a special place in my memories. We also ordered Kokum Soda which is very refreshing and we also ordered Coconut Pudding and Gulab Jamun in dessert. Coconut Pudding was delicious. A special mention about the owner of this place Mr. Sachin who was standing right there at the door entrance and was taking care of his guests and was very kind and professional. We also gave him some suggestions which he accepted it with a very humble smile on his face. Overall, i would highly recommend this place to those who are out there in search of authentic Mangalore Seafood Cuisine in...
Read moreI'm a Mangalorean myself and this would be my review of this cost little place hidden in the heart of Indiranagar. The place also offers alcohol on 3ed floor but we went to 2nd floor dining without it. Items ordered: Prawn Ghee Roast: The GR masala itself takes me back to good old Anupam from Mangalore. Very good start I must say. Goes well with Neer Dosa or by itself. Prawn renders a good sweetness to the dish.
Neer Dosa: Very thin, soft and tasted good. Could have been heated a tad bit to amplify the flavor.
Maanji Masala Fry: Maanji was very good and big. Flavors were on point. Not extremely spicy either for Indian pallette. Soaked in coconut oil which actually gives a very nice aroma.
Maanji Tawa Fry: Anjal was out of stock so we had to again go with Maanji. On point again.
Kaane Masala Fry: 3 full pieces of Kaane were served in one plate. Very tasty. Masala Fry preparation similar to Maanji.
Regarding fish items, fishes are pre-boiled which kind of reduces the infuse of flavor within the fish itself. I feel the fish needs to marinate a little longer in the masala. Although not a BIG differentiation but a Mangalorean will pick it up ;)
Kori Rotti: Mildly spiced, rich with coconut milk. Chicken was perfectly cooked.
Kokum Drink: This was a little sweet for my taste.
Something over and above all this was the service. Service was too good and timely. Kudos...
