I was searching for some good restaurant to explore in mahadevapura and I found Salt Indian Restaurant in VR Bengaluru mall.
Place is cosy. They have outdoor and indoor sitting arrangement. Exclusive space at the 1st floor is only for buffet and this applies only if you are 10+ in a group, else they provide ala carte service.
We ordered Khala Khatta and Hot Apple Toddy to start with. In starters, Chilli Paneer Fry and Masala Crab Papadum. Cottage cheese in chilli paneer was so soft and I couldn’t believe I was tasting paneer as it was melting 🤤 Taste was great, it was fried with onion and capsicum. Masala Crab Papadum, it sounded something unique dish and without 2nd thought I placed the order. However, the dish arrived late more than anticipated time, but I must say it was worth waiting(for me). Crab meat is stuffed in masala papad. Do you realise how that could be 🙄 Taste was predominant. Usually sea food will start smelling at some point of time, when you start eating, but this dish was prepared so well and I didn’t feel such smell at all. Probably because, egg white was used as an ingredient to roll the papad before frying(This was told by restaurant manager himself).
We ordered, Egg biryani as well. My god! Great dum Biryani. I say, it’s a must try if you plan to visit. Hats off to chef because, the aroma of Biryani masala was so good and the proportion of dum the biryani was cooked was mouth watering.
We were asked for desserts, we didn’t order. But surprise factor was we were served plum cake as a complimentary dessert 😋😋 We were so happy about the way they treat their customers politely and humble.
At last, it’s an awesome place for wide spread to try in both veg and non veg. Ensure, you make prior bookings of the table as you can expect ample of crowd...
Read moreIt was dinner at SALT in VR mall last Sunday. I have eaten here before and their Dal Makhni was pretty good, not sure how it is now. Ambience is alright given its in a mall. Back to dinner - we ordered Chicken Malai kebab which at best was flavourless and I could taste only the chicken, onions and chutney along. I told them about it and the staff was courteous enough to ask if I wanted another one as replacement. We didn’t want it. Infact to try and finish it I had to order a garlic naan. Then we ordered the Allepey chicken curry with rice - it was good Ofcourse drinks were ordered too - beer and wine. Finally ordered a Brownie and my son liked it. I have rated this joint a 3* as given that it’s a high end joint specialising in Indian - food should have definitely been far better - prices are quite high too - not that I mind spending but it’s not justified with what they offer. On another note when I received the bill - all items were billed plus I was short changed back as I paid cash. Now - I own a joint myself and it’s only my humble opinion that if a customer has given you feedback about a certain food item and the kebab being almost tasteless - you should not bill that item as a gesture of respect- secondly - if you have billed the item as your food cost is perhaps high - my suggestion is - compliment the dessert - you don’t lose much money there as a joint but you definitely gain a customer which is far more valuable. Thirdly - don’t short change a customer - if you don’t have 5 or 10 rupees to pay back as change - atleast inform the customer politely - but silently pocketing the change is bad ethics. Attaching a few pics for...
Read moreAmbience: The ambience is quite good and well lit, which makes it comfortable for dining and photos. However, the space is not very large or spacious. Overall ambience rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5).
Hygiene: The place seemed clean and well-maintained. Hygiene rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5).
Food: We ordered three dishes and two soft drinks.
Delhi Style Palak Patta Dahi Chaat – Crispy and decent, but it lacked the tanginess you expect from a proper chaat. Considering the pricing (₹400+), it didn’t feel worth the value. ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5).
Afghani Style Soya Chaap – Nicely marinated, tasty, and well-prepared. Definitely enjoyable. ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5).
Punjabi Aloo Chana Puri – A decent dish, actually enjoyable. However, each serving included only two puris, and when we asked for more, it took multiple discussions with the staff and manager to sort it out. ⭐⭐⭐(3/5).
Drinks: We ordered two Sweet & Salt Lime Sodas, and honestly, it was a complete waste of money. I don’t know how someone can ruin such a simple drink, but they somehow managed to. Both me and my partner were disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to order this. ⭐ (1/5).
Service & Mannerism: In the beginning, they served us fryams, but within just 2–3 minutes, a manager/chef came to take them away. It’s not about the fryams, but about basic mannerism and how you treat your customers. This left a negative impression.
Overall, Salt(VR) has decent ambience and hygiene, with good dishes like the soya chaap and aloo chana puri, but certain items (like the lime soda) and the service mannerism were...
