Final Thoughts The Rameswaram Café delivers flavorful South Indian staples—especially Ghee Podi Idli, Masala Dosa, and Filter Coffee—with consistent quality and quick service. It shines for authentic, vegetarian breakfast or quick bites, particularly if you're ghee-loyal.
That said, the hype is real—and comes with caveats:
Expect long queues, little to no seating, and high demand.
Portions may feel modest, and the food, rich with ghee, might not suit lighter tastes.
Some reviewers find it overrated compared to traditional darshinis or other South Indian institutions.
Should you go? Yes, if you love ghee-soaked idlis and strong filter coffee, don’t mind the crowd, and are after something comforting in Indiranagar.
Maybe pass, if seating matters, you're budget-conscious, or you're after classic Udupi or tiffin hall...
Read moreA breakfast date with wifey this time a bit far from home, at the first outlet of Rameshwaram Cafe in 12th Main Indiranagar. We settled for a garlic roast dosa, a pongal, a saffron kesaribath, and of course a filter coffee. Both the kesaribath and the pongal arrived swiftly and the dosa took its own sweet time, roughly about 20+ minutes. Speaking of sweet, the kesaribath was extremely sweet, infused not just with saffron, but also with chunks of pineapple that struggled to cut down the overall sweetness, but failed miserably. Yet, it was very tempting to avoid and we kept going back to this sweet devil in between the miniscule servings of pongal. The pongal as such was well made, strong pepper flavours balanced beautifully and accompanied by one of the best Tamil Nadu style sambar in the city, with shallots, and vegetables, it was made to perfection. The chutneys were wonderful, but it was the Sambar that hit the right notes for me, so much that I drank what was remaining after the pongal. This version of sambar was much much better than the one served in the Whitefield outlet, which used to be a spicy, yet a bit more Udupi style, maybe it is just me, or maybe the changed it recently, patrons of the cafe please share your views. After an unnecessary wait, we received the garlic roast dosa which was perfection on a plate, hot, crispy, with a palya that is delicious, and most importantly you get that mild garlic hit, which seemed to have vanished in the Whitefield outlet.
The delay in dosa probably is because there is no monitoring on the order in which the dosas are placed and order in which people are picking up, our garlic roast dosa was picked up by someone who probably had not ordered that and just a plain dosa, which meant we had to wait for the next batch of dosas that took a while. We made a mental note not to order the dosa in this outlet next time when we are in a hurry. The much larger Whitefield outlet monitors and manages this better, with the system that works, so the wait times are much much shorter.
The filter coffee was bitter, sweet, amazingly strong with a body that was simply soul satisfying, a must recommend even if you are...
Read moreI visted rameshwaram cafe for brunch, and while the food was good, the overall experience left a lot to be desired due to multiple challenges.
Challenges: Parking Issues: It took me 5 minutes to find parking for my bike, and it was quite difficult. If parking for a bike is this challenging, finding space for a car would likely be impossible. Order Placement: • The process of ordering was inconvenient. For the first order, I had to stand in line for 5 minutes, and for the second order, 2 minutes. • If you forget something or want to add an item, you’ll need to stand in line again. • I later discovered there are self-ordering kiosks (on the left-hand side as you enter), which might save time. However, I didn’t use them, so I can’t comment on how well they work. Order Pickup: • The most challenging part was collecting food from different counters based on the item ordered, each with varying wait times. • Dosa: 5 minutes • Pudi Idli: 4 minutes • Coffee/Juices: Less wait time • Rice and Lemon Idli: Around 5 minutes • Overall, depending on your order, you may have to wait anywhere between 2 to 10 minutes at multiple counters, which makes the process a struggle. Seating Arrangement: • Finding a place to eat was another challenge. There are no proper seating arrangements. • They have a few school-style chairs scattered around and some outdoor seating near a tree. However, the seating lacks comfort and organization.
Food Review: Coming to the food, we tried the following: • Filter Coffee: One of the best I’ve had. • Ghee Pudi Masala Dosa, Pudi Idli, Plain Idli, Lemon Rice, Lemon Idli, and Grape Pulp Juice: All were flavorful and met expectations in terms of taste.
Overall Experience: While the food quality was good, the struggles involved in parking, ordering, collecting food, and finding a place to sit overshadowed the experience. The pricing feels on the higher side for a self-service setup with no dedicated seating, making it feel like a “premium thela.”
Considering the effort required, I don’t think it’s worth revisiting. The food taste isn’t extraordinary enough to...
