|| Zaairah - A Veg Affair ||
Being a very big lover of non vegan foods it's very difficult to imagine to visit a pure vegetarian restaurant because there is always a question in my mind that 'what is there in veg dishes other than aloo & panner?' But Zaairah drastically changed my perception with there each & every dishes. They made me believe that veg dishes can be as good as non veg but you just need to identify the right place to have your food. In short a perfect place to have vegetarian food.
Ambience is quite good with ample of sitting capacity. This place have 2 floors; The ground floor have a fine dining area & the 1st floor have a hookah lounge where you can enjoy with friends or dear ones but both the floors are totally separate & you cannot even understand whether there is any lounge above it so for dining you need not to hesitate. They have even separate personal dining table for family to offer you the best dinning experience
As I always say FOOD is the main thing which make me love the place & Zaairah really makes me understood that VEG Dishes can be also good as non veg platter. In frame -
Mocktails ::
Pineapple Blossom A perfect mocktail which is good for every time. This drink have a perfect texture & based on milk & ice cream which makes it more tasty. The more the vanilla ice cream melts in the glass the more the drink becomes delicious because the rich flavour of pineapple was coming. I would consider it under shakes category rather than mocktail but you must try it. It was even served with a cherry & pineapple slice in the top.
Zaairah Sunshine A very refreshing drink for a hot summer day. The drink looks very good but you need to consume fast or else the it becomes little water based as ice was put into it.
Salad :: Zaairah House Salad It was a healthy salad & it was prepared with freshly cut seasonal fruits with flex seeds & fresh lettuce. The Chocolate sauce from the side makes it more attractive. A very good item to began your meal or for health consciousness people.
Starters ::
Crispy Fried Paneer Tikka It's a fusion dish & the coating of the panner makes the whole platter a too good thing. The coating was very thin & crispy due to which the flavour comes very good. Highly Recommended.
Deli wali Tikki The aloo tikki served with curd, sweet tamarind chutney & bhujia. It was very soft & gets melt as soon I put it in the mouth.
Malai Broccoli I never thought that broccoli can also tastes so good. A very good veg starter under tandoor. It was served with 2 types of chutney one with normal coriander chutney which we usually get with all tandoor items & the second one was strawberry chutney with some beetroot added into it. It will be liked by those who loves sweet.
Main Course :: Mac n Cheese To try some other than Indian cuisine I ordered this dish. Even this doesn't disappointed me. They used a good amount of cheese & the best part of this dish is the upper layer. It was served with 2 slices of garlic bread. Highly recommended.
Palak Paneer - Palak Panner is a very common dish & each must have tried once in their life but believe me the palak panner was exceptionally good. The palak was grinded so smooth that a different texture comes into the dish.
Dal Makhni Just one sentence for this -" Best Dal Makhani Ever Had In My Life."
Kadai Sabzi pulao - First time tried sabzi pulao it was average. I didn't like it much. The vegetables was tossed with basmati rice & kadai masala with some tadka.
Kulcha It's a very common Indian bread & it was really soft. Kulcha goes best with dal makhani.
Dessert ::
Chocolate Troufle - A very good dessert to end your meal with sweet tooth. In this troufle the richness of chocolate can be understood in every bite. There is a very special ingredient in this dessert which make it more special is wine.
Service was really good. overall experience was really well & my perception about veg dishes...
Read moreAdding to the vegan revelry, comes Zaairah, in Salt Lake, bang opposite City Centre 1. It is hidden behind a huge pillar of the upcoming Metro Station and offers a fine dining restaurant on the ground floor and a lounge on the first floor. They have reconstructed the vegetarian items into pop eats, making it a delectable vegan journey.
There is valet parking available. Once inside, there is a staircase right beside the door, which takes you to the lounge area. The lounge area is decked up with wall fittings and ornate lamps. Some of the tables have been setup separately so as to give a private dining feel. Main course items are not available in the lounge area, only starters and other nibbles.
The ground floor fine dining restaurant has a soothing ambiance, pipped music being played to keep you company. This restaurant was just 2 days old when we visited and the waiters seemed not too acquainted with the items on the menu.
There are several tables laid down with chairs and some with sofas. There are 2 private dining rooms for groups also, apt for a small gathering. Hanging lamps on the table give a damp and comfy look to the place.
The menu consists of Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Thai and Italian cuisines. The mexican dishes include Mexican rice, tacos, nachos and the like. They also boast of good mocktails and desserts too.
We went for their signature items;
Khichdi Arancini: Dried khichdi deep fried and served with papad and salsa sauce. Without the salsa sauce, the fried khichdi was quite dry. It tasted good overall.
Tater Tots: Potato and cheese filled stuffing inside a long cutlet, served with mayonnaise dip and sweet chilli sauce. This was indeed good. It was not crispy, rather gooey I must say. It tasted heavenly with the sweet chilli sauce.
Nachos Desperado: Age old nachos dish, served with kidney beans, jalapenos, olives and cheese. This was a nascent dish, nothing extra-ordinary, just to keep you munching.
Mexican chilli bean rice with potato tempeh dumpling: This elongated dish name was so huge that made the waiter baffled. I asked to reach out to the chef to know what's in it. Then came a dish, 40 mins late, mexican rice with veggies and a piece of garlic bread. Seems the potato tempeh dumpling was missing. I am not sure if we had the same dish, but whatever it was, the rice was cooked perfectly and tasted lovely with the veggies, zucchini, capsicum and broccoli.
For the mocktails, we had Watermelon Mojito, Spicy Chilli Guava and Ginger Rock Salt Lemonade. The mocktails tasted really good, although they were not fresh juice based, but tasted really good. I would suggest the watermelon mojito and spicy chilli guava, that is, if you are in for these fruits.
The guys have done a great job in doing up the place, especially keeping the vegetarian crowd in mind. The younger generation can have shisha upstairs whereas those looking for simple dining can have delectable meals downstairs. The staff is new and over-enthusiastic and will go all-in serving you. The service can be ramped up, especially for the foreign cuisines, like Thai and Mexican. Thai food was not available on a Sunday, so that needs to be checked. The staff must be thorough with the menu items, since you cannot call up the chef every time for explaining the menu. These are small suggestions, not critic in any way, which can help the restaurant go further and beyond. Overall, the restaurant is a huge addition to the vegetarian list of Kolkata. Special mention about their presentation. It is...
