NEW MATSYA-SAGAR seafood restaurant — Restaurant in Goa

On August 15, 2023, Tuesday I had lunch at New Matsya Sagar restaurant, Gen. Bernardo Guedes Road, near Panjim market - Opp. Malsons shoe shop. I ordered mackerel fish thali. I ate the fish which was crispy and found it to be stale. I complained to the waiter and he brought another fried mackerel. This too was stale. I did not eat the fish. At the end of the meal I was charged Rs 120 (which is on the menu card), with no discount and no apologies offered. The FSSAI authorities should immediately carry out an inspection of the kitchen hygiene / cold storage facilities and also other restaurants in Panjim (Navratna restaurant, near Chandu Medical stores - in June this year I found a cockroach in “Dahi wada”). No customer should be served stale, unhygienic food. It is indeed disgusting - restaurants/ waiters in India lack hygiene. God bless...

The place is located on a busy road and is easily spotted. The ambiance is fine.

Unfortunately the food is a huge disappointment.

We wanted to try Goan cuisine so we asked the waitor to suggest some items. He suggested mushrooms xacuti with rice. It tasted absolutely horrible. Also, I suffered food poisoning with severe stomach ache.

We also ordered hakka noodles which tasted stale.

The Chinese choupsey that we ordered did not look like choupsey at all. It was veggies in a white gravy and we refused to try it since it did not look appetizing.

The chicken 65 was totally bland and even after asking them to make it spicy it was served bland. We gave it back to them to make it spicy and when it came back, it was still the same.

Only the hot and sour soup was little okay.

A non AC restaurant with suitable sitting capacity maximum 4 ppl on each table. The staff is very good at attending to needs and queries. Hygeine is maintained well within the restaurant. Food was one bad point of the restaurant. Being named after fish the fish thali which included Red snapper (modso) is not upto the mark. Very stale and tasteless fried fish and the curries are tasteless. Side dishes are also not that good. Overall a below average experience in terms of food . They need to improve the...
