A typical kerala style restaurant. Giving the old classic vibes of kerala tea stalls , Balan chettans kada serves their famous square porotta and the best pairing to that is the mutton chaps. When i had visited the mutton chaps was over which shows the high demand of the dish. So i had some typical kerala style beef roast to go along with the porotta. Talking about the porotta , it is much fluffier than a normal porotta but lacks the layers to that of a typical kerala porotta , but tastes just like any other porotta. Now the beef was slow cooked and had a non over powering masala coated over it and roasted to perfection. The beef is definitely a match made in heaven with the porotta. Ordered some chicken fry as well, but it wasn't hot and lacked any sort of Masala making it a failure...but the beef and porotta definitely did stand out. I would definitely want to try the mutton chaps next cos the beef and porotta eventhough was amazing seemed pretty ordinary and is available in many places.
Hoping to get the mutton chaps next time. For those who are looking for an affordable place with some typical kerala tea shop vibes do try our Balan chettans kada. And please carry cash cos they don't have any online mode of transactions sticking to the old style. Those who visit this shop definitely should try the the avocado shake from ambedkar...

Read moreNever seen a porotta like this . Lots of layers and soft as sponge. They have my favorite beef fry with jeerah and onions on top. The great thing that I am addicted to this hotel is their gravy. The gravy which the serve for porotta is so thick and very tasty that , no other extra curry is required for eating the heavenly porotta. Another best thing is that if we ask sliced onion with porotta, which is a favorite option of a Malayalee they would give a plate full of onion slices with out any due. And the highlight of Beef fry is that it is customisable without any cost . Modifications based on our taste can be told to them and the Beef fry will turn out to come just as like we expected. The main disadvantage of this place is that the hotel is situated in the most densely populated area of Mattanchery and that too with a road having a least measured width. With the road size come the facility of parking. Cars not even auto-rickshaws cannot be parked here . Bikes can be parked but that too is difficult. But its worth it to find a place to park and come and eat the delicious food served here. The way of service and sitting...
