Visited Ceylon Bake House, Ponnurunni on the national highway side which turned out to be a disaster in my recent restaurant visits. When I entered there were only 6 customers inside the dining hall, but it took 6 minutes for the service boys to provide the menu card. When I ordered a Mugalai mutton biriyani and a mint lemon my hopes were at the highest thinking of my previous experiences I had from the other Ceylon Bake Houses at other parts of Ernakulam. After a waiting time of 17 minutes the much awaited Biriyani arrived, but I was shocked to see Chicken Biriyani instead of Mutton Biriyani. When it was informed to the service boy he argued with me that it is mutton only though a huge chicken leg piece was clearly visible on top of the rice. When I opposed, he took the biriyani to the kitchen saying that he needs to cross verify. Again waiting for another 6 minutes, the above said Mugalai Mutton Biriyani arrived. Too disappointing it was as this was the coldest biriyani I ever had in my life. Even road side vendors ensure that their biriyani is always served hot. As I was too hungry at that 2:00PM, still I managed to have half the biriyani. Next turn was of the mint lemon in which I didn't taste even a drop of lemon. I understand that lemon is Rs. 100 per kg during this summer, still if I order lemon, they must serve lemon. This may be a franchise, but these kind of people will spoil a well known trusted name...
Read moreCeylon Bake House in Vytil, Kochi, has been a notable spot for traditional cuisine, but my recent visit left me with mixed feelings. Known for its reputation, I was eager to sample their famed biryani. On the menu, I chose the Chicken Biryani and the Chilli Chicken Biryani, hoping to relive the experiences that once made this place special.
Unfortunately, the dishes did not meet my expectations. The Chicken Biryani lacked the depth of flavor and aromatic spices I had anticipated, coming across as rather bland. The Chilli Chicken Biryani, which I hoped would offer a vibrant twist, fell short as well. Its spice level and seasoning were inconsistent, making it less enjoyable than I remembered from past visits.
On the positive side, the prices were reasonable, which might appeal to those looking for budget-friendly options. The ambience of the restaurant was standard—nothing particularly distinctive or inviting, but it was comfortable enough. Service was adequate, neither particularly impressive nor disappointing, and did not detract from the experience.
It's worth noting that Ceylon Bake House had once been known for its exceptional biryani, so this recent visit was disappointing compared to those previous high standards. While the restaurant may still hold appeal for some, based on this experience, I find it hard to recommend the biryani with the same enthusiasm I might have...

Here's what we liked :
Neatly maintained dining space. Air conditioned and kind of cozy interiors. Parking space
What we didn't liked and felt needed improvement :
Though they have too many items in their menu - most of them are not available. I have read similar reviews earlier. So I think they haven't rectified it yet. Either strike out a menu item or have it available. Highly inconsistent taste - Two different serves of a same order tastes differently. Also the quality of beef we ordered looked different. Some pieces were well cooked and correctly blended while other pieces looked hard as rubber and not at all blended with the spices. Poor cooking - Apart from what I mentioned above, taste wise also we didn't felt good about the items we ordered. Paneer in chilly paneer didn't looked like it blended with the gravy at all. Chicken looked raw and hard. Beef pieces were neither satisfactory.
To summarise - this outlet needs an introspection compared to other Ceylon outlets. The food doesn't justify the amenities provided and the...
