I ordered two Onasadya takeaways from Grand Entree.
In one sentence - A very disappointing Onasadya.
Mezhukkuvaratty - The achinga was very hard and seemed undercooked.
Parippu & Ghee - I asked the person at the counter if they could provide extra parippu since it’s a favorite for both my wife and me. The manager at the billing counter said it would take some time because there was a rush, and the quantity provided inside was sufficient for one person.
However, I’ve never in my life seen such a small amount of parippu served with a meal. It came in a very small container(the ones used to serve pickles) To add to the disappointment, out of the two sadyas I purchased, only one had parippu.
Sambar - It didn’t taste like the typical Kerala sambar. It was more like the slightly sweet sambar you’d find in Karnataka or northern regions.
Palada Payasam - The taste was good, but the quantity was very disappointing. The container had so little payasam it looked like leftovers. Hardly one spoonful. (Photo attached).
Parippu Payasam - It tasted as if extra water had been added and wasn’t boiled properly afterwards. The quantity was also disappointing.
Pazham Payasam - Once again, the quantity was disappointing, and it had a bitter aftertaste (chavarppu).
Rice - The rice had a piece of broken banana leaf inside the box. Doesn’t affect the taste, but experience-wise it’s a turn off.
Mango Pickle - I only got one pickle in the two sadya boxes. One was missing.
Avial & Olan - Had less salt. But it’s ok since salt was provided separately.
Not everything was bad; the following items were good: Upperi, Sharkaravaratti, Lemon Pickle, Puli Inji, Pappadam, Thoran, Pachadi, Kichadi, Erissery, Kootu Curry, Rasam, Mambazha Pulissery, Kaalan, Pacha Moru, Pazham, and even the Vazhayila (including vazhayila since it was listed as one of the 24 items served).
Normally, after a heavy Onasadya, I’d go straight to sleep. But today, instead of sleeping, I’m taking the time to write such a lengthy review, which should tell you how disappointed I am.
Note: I tried their sadya a few days ago, and the dine in experience was quite okay(even though the mambazha pulisery was a bit sweeter, but since the overall experience wasn’t bad, I didn’t give a feedback about it) .
I understand the high volume of orders on Thiruvonam, but on such a special day, when people rely on you to celebrate their festival, extreme care should be taken with quality, quantity, and customer...
Read moreGrand Entrée in Kochi is truly a delightful place to enjoy a memorable dining experience. We visited them for lunch and were quite impressed with the overall service, food, and ambience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and offered a refreshing complimentary welcome drink — a watermelon juice presented in a dry ice infusion. The presentation was a wonderful visual treat and set the tone for the rest of the meal. For lunch, we ordered Pidi, Ghee Rice, Squid/Koonthal Pepper Roast, and Nool Porotta. All the dishes were freshly prepared, served hot, and tasted delicious. The Pidi was authentic and full of flavor, easily one of the best we’ve tried anywhere. The Squid/Koonthal Pepper Roast deserves a special mention — it was cooked to perfection, tender yet flavorful, with the pepper giving it just the right amount of kick. This dish, along with the Pidi, became our absolute favorites from the meal. The Ghee Rice was aromatic and came with multiple accompaniments like mango chutney with coconut, dates pickle, and salad, which made it even more enjoyable. While it was already very good, the absence of caramelized onions on top was noticeable — adding them would have elevated the dish to an even higher level of richness and authenticity. The only slight letdown in our meal was the Nool Porotta, which we found to be just okayish compared to the high standard of the other dishes. The ambience of Grand Entrée is excellent, with well-designed interiors that create a relaxed and upscale dining atmosphere. They also offer valet parking, which makes it hassle-free for guests arriving by car. Another highlight is their fresh fish display, where you can choose from a variety of fish with prices listed per 100 grams and have them cooked according to your preferred style — a great touch for seafood lovers. They also have a Limo Café near the entrance showcasing a tempting collection of cakes and desserts, which looked fantastic and is worth exploring. Considering the food quality, service, and ambience, the pricing is quite reasonable and offers excellent value for money. Overall, Grand Entrée is definitely a must-visit restaurant in Kochi, especially for those who appreciate authentic flavors, fresh seafood, and a premium dining ambience. We will surely return to try more from their...

We, a group of 12 including 4 children, had been to Grand Entrée, Kochi the other day to celebrate the 4th birthday of our little one. We arrived in two cars, of which only one was given for valet parking. Happening to notice how a black Creta was driven to the parking, the friend who opted for parking the car himself thanked his stars. But that was just the first let-down.
Concierge - Well if I can use the term in this case; the person, rather the team, who receives you first and takes count so that the table(s) can be arranged. This has a lot of scope for improvement. Maybe we didn't look good enough to be prospective repeat customers. There was nothing, absolutely NOTHING, done to make at least the ladies and the kids comfortable.
I could see that they are a fit lot. Well, having to stand at the lobby and getting a chance to observe them for close to 90 minutes told us how. They would have managed at least 5000 steps in that time. There was no coordination with the staff managing the two floors, and this made them to climb up and down the flight of stairs. How considerate of the management!
At the end, one of us had to go up and request for a set tables that were getting empty on the first floor and do some coordination, while the staff were waiting for a table where a family was feeding their kids and having their cheat meal of the week ;). This is after us insisting us to give us a table that they said had blocked for us. We were lucky that the kids were fed from home before we came.
The food, but, was awesome. Finger Licking Awesome. Except for the biriyani which was a let-down, we could talk for minutes together about the way the dishes were prepared and presented.
They could do better service had they been equipped with walkie talkies. Hope the management takes notice. But yeah, that would affect their fitness.
Ready to give them another chance. But definitely not for lunch with friends on a Sunday, unless they start accepting bookings. And I wouldn't opt for their valet parking even then. A 100m dash, pre and post meal, could do me also some good. Why should I get my car tested by rally...
