Social Kitchen in Kadavanthra is a well-known spot that attracts a decent crowd mainly for its tasty food at very affordable prices. While the taste is good and satisfying, it’s not something extraordinary or worth high praise. Still, for the price you pay, the food is certainly worth it. The menu includes a variety of items such as snacks, tea, juice, and light meals, all of which maintain a decent standard in terms of flavor and portion. However, one thing that caught my attention during my recent visit was the size of the ghee roast I ordered—it was noticeably smaller than what I usually get from other restaurants.

The cleanliness of the hotel and its surroundings is definitely a plus point. The premises are kept neat, which adds to the overall pleasant experience. However, the restaurant follows a self-service method, which can be a bit inconvenient during rush hours. You need to pay for your food before eating, and after payment, you’ll receive individual bills for each item ordered. These bills must be shown at their respective counters—tea at one, snacks at another, and juice elsewhere.

This system becomes quite hectic when the place is crowded, especially in the evening. Finding a seat is another challenge, particularly if you’re visiting alone. Since items are collected from separate counters, you might struggle to manage everything by yourself. Sometimes staff call out your name, but at times they don’t, and your food may remain open on the counter until you collect it.

The restaurant has installed two kiosk machines to reduce the rush at the billing counter, but they still see long queues. Today, for instance, I was tenth in line even at the kiosk. Another significant drawback is the parking. The area is congested and finding a proper parking spot is difficult, often forcing people to park by the roadside, which is risky given the heavy traffic on that stretch.
