The last time I visited this restaurant was way back in 1998. It was a treat for my friends and that experience of Tandoor still lingers in my memory as one of the sweetest memories in my life.
Last week I visited the restaurant again, well, the ambiance has changed, Last time the restaurant was different, i think we dined in their 1st floor restaurant which was more spacious and more luxurious? I miss something.
Service was good. Even though getting the attention of our waiter is a bit tough as he is serving multiple tables, he was good. After the food was served he left us alone and never bugged us for the next order.
Now the food. They are fresh. Hot. Spicy. Costly. Not as spicy as I remember from my early days of adulthood : that food in the 90s was something else. Maybe the quality of ingredients have changed .. or my tongue was expecting more - I wasn't feeling the same feeling that I had on my first visit. Quantity also has reduced. If i remember right, one plate of curry was enough for two or three people. Back in 98 we ordered about 4 different dishes and naan to fill all 10 huge stomachs. Now we will need to order 6 instead? That is normal i think because of the recession and labour costs nowadays.
The main issue(not an issue, but disappointment) is the lack of special treatment given to food. Didn't feel it received special love from the chef. Kadai chicken: It was like those factory made dishes we get from other restaurants. When we visit restaurants like Tandoor, what I expect is something special: customised food, or.. we should feel like each plate received special treatment from the chef. It shouldn't have that same taste every time. Some thing extra, or some extra herbs or tricks played by chef.. whow, that would be special isbt it? (Noushad's NBC had that quality for their food, their avoli curry and puttu is still in my memories. Maybe that is why they downed their shutters very fast?)
Anyways, it was good. But my expectations...
Read moreThe Restaurant has made it's mark in kochi many eons back, from day one, though was a small restaurant then during those years, spread it's wings both in reputation and space wise, made a big leap & never had to look back and is success till yesterday, the day we visited. Food is excellent, service is par excellent, the ambiance too is good, may be a step ahead of similarly placed restaurants in kochi. Car parking is free and had parking space during our visit, Kochi's major issue is parking, that's taken care to a larger extent by the restaurant. Food, is something that needs mentioning, very good and tasty. Specialised items on the menu of course can be tried, not in one day, many days will be needed for that task. It won't be a mistake trying all available items offered, for food served is super excellent. There will be no second openion. Rates are fairly affordable for all items on the menu. With its reputation right from start, rest can be assured one will not regret the visit, will revisit again and again, for sure.
Ambiance, is satisfactorily good when compared to other similarly placed restaurants in kochi.
The service is excellent, the friendly staff, the quickness in serving the dishes ordered needs mentioning else one will not be true to oneself.
Rating, out of 10 the usual yard stick if used, 8.50 points can be given closing one's eyes.
Customers may have to add, our reading and our experience of this restaurant, though not for the 1st time, haven't changed till yesterday. Great...
Read moreCame to this restaurant after a very long time on 6th October. Ordered roti, kadai chicken, soup, kabab and "kimchi Korean salad". Except the so called kimchi food was decent. The kimchi served to me was cut pieces of cucumber, onion, tomato and pineapple with some hot and sweet sauce poured all over it. It was really bad. I told the server that this was not kimchi and to take it back. He started arguing with me saying this is what they have been serving for long as kimchi and nobody has ever complained. (Those people who never complained must have never tasted kimchi before) What irked me more was he went to another guy and started to bad mouth about us and that too loudly. He was saying to tell us that this is kimchi and that we don't know . TO THE OWNER/CHEF: pls research properly what you serve. If you don't know the recipe pls Google and find out. Kimchi is a salted and fermented veg salad which mainly has chinese cabbage and i very well know how it tastes. Pls do not serve just anything to customers thinking they are fools specially when restaurants that serve authentic food are there in cochin. Customers are not fools who will just swallow whatever you serve specially when you are overly priced. You could have simply named that thing as a salad with hot sauce. Also pls teach your server some basic manners. Gave 2 stars just coz the roti and kababs...
