Scamming At Woodlands Cafe
I want to share about a devious method of cheating naive customers here at Woodlands Cafe who come from outside Kerala. My wife and I are from Mumbai though originally from Kochi. And we were communicating in Hindi and English with the waiter and the owner Lady who suggested a moode idli which is not in the menu, it came uncooked. Then we ordered for Ghee thatte Idli and it was brought cold. We sent it back. Finally we settled for a Masala Dosa along with Horlicks and Lemon Juice.
Now comes the dirty part. I asked for the bill. I did notice that they don't give the bill. The north Indian family of 4 including two kids who left just before us were thus made to pay 430re by just giving the amount figure. And now they said 270 as my total amount. I felt something wrong and I asked for the bill. I heard the lady owner tell the waiter to tell me the system is down. I said I want a manually written bill. Finally another waiter came and got a bill printed with 270 plus gst. The Butter Masala Dosa was 120 in the bill whereas it was 95 in the menu. Mooge idli 90 but not mentioned in the menu. When I asked about it, she said they have hiked the rates and were going to change the menu. I told her that she is cheating the gullible outsiders by not giving the bill and inflating the amount. I am sure the previous customer must have paid at least 30% extra. She did apologise and said she won't repeat it, but told her she didn't mean it and will repeat her act. Finally she deducted the cold moode idli amount and corrected the butter dosa price. I will tell my friends to visit this place once in a while and check if the bill is given. If not, I will lodge a complaint. Please note, insist on a bill. And do check with the menu pricing. If an item in not in the menu, ask for the price first before ordering.
Don't be misled by the welcoming demeanor of the mother and daughter duo who run this place. The Woodlands name also is getting tarnished by their misdeeds.

Read moreI love vegetarian South Indian food and am always looking for new places to eat a variety of south indian dishes as even though the dish is the same, the taste, the ingredients, the preparation, are totally different in different south indian regions... Have been wanting to try out the menu at Cafe Woodlands for a while... I tried the Medu Vada, Paper Roast, Moode Idly (Leaf Idly), and Thatte Idly... I really liked the Medu Vada the most, they were really crisp and fluffy... The chutneys and the sambhar were also really nice... The dosa was excellent, Moode idly and Thatte Idly did not come up to my expectations but were not bad at all... Overall I loved the food and will definitely be going to try the other things on the menu especially the podi idly fry and the...

Had the privilege of meeting the family member who runs this place, Mr. Venkatesh, one of the elderly personality who runs the place, himself asked for the order when I stepped in,WHAT AN AMBIENCE! This place takes you for a quick tour with its ambience and aura. Hospitality at its best.
I requested for Podi with my idli vada and there I got my alaadin ka chirag - my treasure podli mixed deep with ghee, so much so that I felt I'm still a school kid eating idli with podis before rushing to school.
Best part about this place is you'll also find few top cuisines of Karnataka like Pongal and Bisibele bhath etc due to the origin history of...
