This is my most favorite indian restaurant in Kerala, and perhaps my most favorite in India as a whole. I have eaten from the Punjabi Restaurant since I was a child. My uncle used to take there each time when I used to visit Kottayam. I love their naan, roti, veg fried rice and most importantly their Paneer Butter Masala is addicting and tasty. All their foods have and are made with love, care and high quality.
Unfortunately I am allergic to Garam Masala, Gluten and Milk, and sensitive to green chilli. I really do miss indian food. At Present Idli and Dosa are the only indian foods that I can eat but not in a everyday basis. I wish the Punjabi Restaurant would provide all allergen free food items. Also introduce new curries like Mughali Style Shahi Tofu. Just make it GLUTEN FREE, Dairy Free, and Garam Masala free and also green chilli free. They should be fine. They should also try to bring in Shahi Tofu Biryani or Shahi Style Biryani. For alternatives to Dairy they should use Coconut Milk or Coconut Milk yogurt or curd or Coconut milk cream. Avoid Milk for the alternative to dairy. They can use Paprika as well.
They should try to make alternatives to roti, naan and chapati. Meaning for example use Chickpeas Flour. Also they bring Chili Porotta, and Malabar Porotta and make sure they have alternatives to those twos.
Anyway I highly recommend The Punjabi Restaurant. It is a very good restaurant. I think If I went in there now I believe the staff may remember me. Anyway IT IS A MUST TRY. At least Try it once. This is a restaurant I truly recommend to World Leaders. The taste and food is totally unavoidable. Thank you and...
Read moreVisited The Punjabi Restaurant in Kottayam 4 days ago, and it brought back a lot of memories! I had dined here around 13 years ago, and it’s great to see that the restaurant is still at the same spot, running under the same name. Back in the day, this used to be one of our go-to places for biryani after catching a movie at the nearby theaters—so it was definitely a nostalgic visit.
This time, we ordered one half regular chicken biryani, one half special chicken biryani, and one full special chicken biryani. The taste was good—slightly above average. The full special biryani cost around Rs. 260, which felt a bit pricey for the portion and overall experience. Still, the flavors were decent and satisfying.
What stood out was the atmosphere. The place still looks and feels almost exactly the same, and that familiarity was quite comforting. The owner himself was there, greeting guests, taking orders, and checking on customers, which gave a warm, personal touch without feeling awkward.
All in all, it was a nice throwback to the past, and I’m glad the restaurant has stood the test of time. Worth a visit if you’re nearby and want to enjoy a bit of nostalgia along with a...
Read moreMy recent visit to The Punjab Restaurant was a mix of highs and lows. The experience, while impressive in some aspects, left much to be desired in others.I had Garlic Butter Naan and Chicken Patiala.
Let's begin with the highlights: the Garlic Butter Naan and Chicken Patiala were nothing short of mind-blowing. The flavors were exceptional, and they truly showcased the essence of Punjabi cuisine. The pleasant ambiance also added to the overall experience, making it a lovely place to enjoy a meal.
On the flip side, there were some glaring issues. The dirty washroom was a major letdown. It's basic hygiene, and it should not be compromised. The service, although passable, was on the sluggish side, with some staff members appearing disinterested. And the availability of parking was a real headache. Finding a spot was a daunting task, which significantly marred the experience.
Overall,The Punjab Restaurant has its strengths in terms of food quality and ambiance. However, it must urgently address the issues of cleanliness, service efficiency, and the parking situation to truly provide a satisfactory...
