Nestled in the bustling neighborhood of Ballygunge, this iconic restaurant offers a nostalgic journey through the flavors of Bengal, inviting patrons to indulge in traditional delicacies served with a side of warmth and hospitality.

This is one of the best Benglai cuisine in the City. Heard a lot about the place and willing to visit the place from a long time. Then planned to have a lunch date with my partner. Heard that this place offers both A La Carte and buffet but I preferred to go for A La Carte to have the dishes that I want to try. Firstly when I entered the restaurant there was a queue of 2 to 3 families and they asked me to wait for 10-15 minutes. When my turn came they took me to the first floor and went till the table. Now coming to the food. We ordered:

Gondhoraj Lebu and Green Chili: They gave us 4 pieces of Gondhoraj Lebu and Green Chillies. It was complementary

Steamed Rice: It was nicely cooked flavoured Basmati Rice.

Macher matha diye moong dal: The pulses were nicely cooked with the fish head. The entire dish has a flavour of fish and pieces of fish head. It was perfectly meant for the Bengalies.

Jhur jhure aloo bhaja: The dish which every bengali want to have with the rice and dal. The potatoes were nicely sliced and deep fried with a pinch of salt.

Basanti Polao: It was not like the normal basanti polao. After hearing the name of dish primarily the yellow coloured polao comes into our mind and the same happens to me. But they served it white rice fried with veggies and kaju and kismis. It tastes really nice.

Daab Chingri: It is the signature dish of this place. After tasting it I understand why it was said as their signature dish. The prawns where as soft as butter, never tasted prawns like this before in my life. It was also nicely tendered with the gravy and served inside a coconut. According to me is the best dish of the joint and a must try for every visitor.

Dhakai pora mangsho: It was a Bangladeshi mutton dish. They serves 5 pieces of succulent pieces of mutton. The dish was perfectly prepared to have with rice but it didn't failed to satisfy our taste buds with the polao.

Baked mihidana with Rabdi: One of my favorite bengali desert. They serves white mihisdana under the baked rabdi.

They served Kuchi Benrashi Pan and white mouri as the mouth freshener. The pan was really nice it was a kind of special mouth freshener of them because none of the joints provides it.

The quantity of the dishes were nice and appropriate. Some may say that the price is on the higher side but it is top notch Bengali cuisine in the city. If you have to have the best then you have to...

Firstly, nice looking place giving a retro feel with it's interiors and ambience. I have attached a few pics and these clearly show that the place is very picturesque and great for taking selfies and pics with friends and family. Five star for visual delicacy of the place. Now regarding food, I must say it's a place where one will find unique Bengali cuisine and I am saying this for non Bengali people. People visiting from foreign countries must visit this place to have a taste of authentic Bengali cuisine. People from other parts of India can try the food for it's uniqueness but not for the regular Indian spicyness. You won't find the food appealing enough if you are into mughlai and traditional spicy Indian food. Personally, I found the food very interesting for a first time but not for a repeated mouth watering tastefulness ( I like the spicy one, be it biryani, mughlai, Punjabi or South Indian). We ordered Fish Kabiraji for the starters which was fried fish coated with egg net. The fish part was good but we all didn't appreciate the egg net which made this dish too heavy and full of oil. The fish net was basically egg batter directly fried on hot oil. They served it will a very small serve of salad which was totally insufficient. They didn't even serve any sauces or chutni and believe me we couldn't make it through with the sauces and chutney. We also ordered the Bhetki paturi, which is a traditional Bengali dish consisting of fish prepared with a coating of mustard sauce wrapped in banana leaf. We had it with plain rice and it's was kind of fine, not too good or bad. We also ordered the Dab chingri which is a prawn dish prepared with slight tinge of sweetness and served in a raw coconut shell. We felt the dish was ok but not much appealing to our taste buds due to the fact that it had a tinge of sweetness and we are into the luscious mughlai cuisine full of spices and gravy and sauces. The mutton pulaao was not at all up to the mark again with a tinge of sweetness which is not usually expected in a mutton dish served in india. I am giving an overall 4 starts just for the ambience of this photogenic place. Had it been just for the food, I wouldn't have given more that 2.5 and that too just because I was trying such type of non taste bursting food for the first time and I am used to more of...
