Yesterday, I visited this popular cafe located just 700 meters from New Market or Esplanade metro station with my sister. We were eager to try out their continental cuisine.
Ambiance: The interior was quite simple, consisting of three rows of tables and chairs on both sides. It wasn't particularly impressive, but it was comfortable enough for a casual meal.
Food and Service: We started with the cream of mushroom soup, which wasn't on the menu. The waiter kindly arranged it for us, which was a pleasant surprise. The soup was heavenly, with a rich, creamy texture that was enhanced perfectly with a bit of pepper.
Next, we ordered the double chicken lasagna and roasted chicken. The lasagna was cheesy, creamy, and absolutely delicious—definitely a must-try. The roasted chicken was served with blanched and stir-fried vegetables, mashed potatoes, and a flavorful glazed sauce, making for a well-rounded and satisfying dish.
We also ordered two fresh lime sodas—one sweet and one salted. There was a mix-up, and we were initially served the wrong order, but the waiter promptly corrected it by having a new salted lime soda made for us. This level of attentive service was quite impressive.
Value for Money: The total bill for two came to ₹990, which is around ₹470 per person. Considering the quality of food and the attentive service, I found this to be very reasonable.
Overall: I would definitely recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a pocket-friendly and tasty meal. The friendly service and delicious food make it...
Read moreOne of the oldest cafes in Kolkata, Blue Sky Cafe has never relied on overhyped influencer marketing or flashy trends. Instead, it's built a reputation over the years purely through its food — especially its affordable English breakfast, which many say rivals that of Flurys at a fraction of the price.
Double Chicken Lasagna – Rs.390 (Rating: 4/5) A rich, cheesy delight with a generous portion size. The lasagna was packed with multiple chunks of well-cooked chicken and tasted great overall.
Roasted Chicken in Brown Sauce – Rs.370 (Rating: 4/5) A satisfying dish with perfectly smoked chicken and crunchy vegetables, served alongside smooth mashed potatoes. A bit of butter in the mash could have enhanced the flavor even more. The portion size could have been slightly better, but the sauce and cooking were spot on.
Blue Sky Cafe may lack the modern, Instagram-friendly decor of newer cafes, but what it offers in terms of honest food and reasonable prices makes it well worth visiting even after all these years. I look forward to trying their...
Read moreThis is an excellent place for any meal of the day. It opens quite early in the morning and stays open for a long time. It is also one of the most popular places amongst the people visiting Kolkata from abroad and chances are every time you pop in, you will spot a group of foreign tourists. That is also an indication of how good this place is despite not being an iconic food joint like Nizam's or Nahoum's Bakery.
The food here varied, plentiful and a bit on the pricey side. But the service and the free wifi should more than make up for it. The staff is very friendly and most of the dishes are great. Their greatest strength probably lies in the menu which is quite extensive. The place isn't that large though and is better suited for small groups. Although they'll try and make arrangements to provide for a large group if the place isn't too crowded. Do check this place out. Other than the price of the burgers, not much will...
