Oddly enough, I had not visited this place earlier. I had heard about great Momo and other Tibetan food served on this Street and assumed it was one of the other two places. Where I have eaten many times and with mixed experience. With COVID restrictions and my inhibition to eat at a restaurant, I ordered for take away. The only staff take orders seemed friendly. I ordered for two plates of steamed Momo one Chicken and one pork. He asked me if I wanted soup. I said one would be sufficient. By the time I reached home (rush hour traffic) the food was not as warm. I warmed it in the microwave and I would give 10/10 for the chicken Momo (not really a big fan of Momo in general, yet I really liked it) the sauce was ok and soup was perhaps the weak point out the offering. Considering the set, the taste, I would say the price is on the higher side. They didn't have elaborate packaging, their set up is very modest and yet they charge almost 4 times what other street vendor would charge for a plate. Would I visit this place again. I think I will. To find out, how well they cook the main courses. I will hopefully update my review then or simply write another one. For now I will say this. If you are taking a walk around Satyajit Ray Dharani, feel like shopping at Forum Courtyard or catch a play or exhibition around Nandan complex then you might want to add this place to your list to have a good experience, albeit at a slightly...
Read moreHamro Momo in Kolkata is a true gem for anyone craving authentic Tibetan cuisine. Nestled off Elgin Road, this unpretentious eatery takes you back in time with its simple setup and nostalgic charm. With just three tables, it's a cozy spot that has maintained its quality and affordability for over 25 years. During our recent visit, we were delighted to find that nothing had changed, including the lack of air conditioning. The experience was worth it for the delectable food. The pork steamed momos, served with a spicy homemade chili paste and a bowl of seasoned clear soup, were soft, juicy, and perfectly spiced. The chicken steamed momos were equally good, and the fried momos were tasty but a bit too filling for our liking. Besides momos, Hamro Momo also offers a fantastic American Chop Suey. This dish strikes the right balance of sweetness and savory flavors, topped with a fried egg. Though we missed the runny yolk from past visits, the chop suey still impressed. The prices are incredibly reasonable, with a meal for two costing less than Rs. 300. Keep in mind, Hamro Momo is popular among local office workers and college students, so it can get busy and stuffy, especially in the summer. Also, they might be closed on Sundays and holidays, so it's best to check beforehand. If you're on a Kolkata food trail, Hamro Momo is a must-visit for great food at...
Read moreVery very bad experience.... I wish I could give negative rating.... Just thought to give this small dingy Chinese-Tibetan joint a try today.... As the name suggests, heard some good opinions about their momos.... So we ordered 2 chicken steam momos & 2 deep pan-fried chicken momos.... The outer cover of the momos were very thick & the filling was so so.... Five momos were there in each plate.... Now, after consuming the first momo, I discovered a long strand of hair inside the 2nd piece.... I showed the plate politely without uttering a word to the person in the counter (probably the manager) and this was his arrogant reply.... "Yeh to ho sakta hay ek-do piece mey.... eh to banke ata hay.... aap yeh rakh do waha par".... and after 10 minutes they were kind enough to give me another plate but this time with 3 momos.... I just didn't dare to go to the counter again.... The funny thing was that they were not sorry at all and as this was my fault to show this to them in front of the other customers.... Yes, it was my fault to go there and will definitely not...
