This place seems over rated. Being a Soam venture, the expectations were high, but experience was far from that. Valet and Security: Excellent, Courteous and very helpful. We were a family of 8 and were given a table by joining two tables of 6 and 4 in a separate area to the left of the entrance. The ambience seemed very good until after a while when the big windows let the sun in. It started to get very stuffy, since that area does not have any airconditioning. It was even more stuffier after the staff let the waiting parties wait INSIDE the restaurant. There is no space inside, even then atleast 15 persons were made to wait near the entrance. Taste of food was awesome. We ordered Thalipeeth, Berry Pulao, banana fries, sweet potato fries, chutney bombs and chowpatty salad besides couple of other dishes. The serving quantity is very small. Large dishes are barely sufficient for one. Small dishes are very inadequate. Those who intend to share dishes please note this. Pricewise, seems over priced, but then Soam isn't less either. The worst was order taking and service. It took on an average 20 minutes for EACH dish to be served. They forgot to serve couple of early orders. Worst was the attitude of managing staff. They were keen to see us go early and asked us couple of times, if we were done - which is ridiculous, specially when they were not serving on time. On being confronted, the Sr staff did not even bother to respond, rather the server apologised and explained that being new place, they are all still adjusting. One of us family members was fasting, and they dont have any options for fasting food except fries. So we asked if we can order aything from Soam - barely 200 mtrs apart. We were ok to even bring it ourselves - but were flatly denied. This is not a negative but such courtesies count in hospitality business. A sharp contrast to our recent experience with Suzette restaurant in Bandra - where they brought us an entire menu from a neighbouring sister restaurant just because our kids wanted a different food than that...
Read moreThis delightful restaurant, under the same management as the renowned Soam eatery known for its Gujarati delicacies, situated just across from the Babulnath temple, offers a unique fusion of Mumbai flavors with a predominant Maharashtrian influence, complemented by hints of Parsi and Gujarati cuisine. Like Soam and many other restaurants in the area, this is a pure vegetarian establishment.
Nestled in a charming colonial building, the restaurant exudes an ambiance reminiscent of bygone eras, adding to the allure of the dining experience. While the prices may appear a bit high for everyday dishes, particularly for hardcore Mumbaikars, the menu offers dishes that are a departure from the overspiced, greasy street food commonly found in the city.
Even the simplest dishes, such as Varan Bhaat, are expertly prepared here, striking the perfect balance without overwhelming the palate. A highlight of the menu is the resurrection of classic delights like the Chutney Bomb, a rare find in other establishments, adding an exciting twist to the culinary journey.
Additionally, their Thaleepeth is a must-try, boasting a light and non-greasy texture that perfectly complements the diverse flavors offered. For convenience, the restaurant is located on the first floor, with a built-in lift for those who have difficulty climbing stairs.
To enhance your dining experience, try to secure a table with a view of Chowpatty, adding to the ambiance and charm...
