Soam has presented Gujarat and Rajasthan on a plate which Mumbaikars relish to death. A range of seasonal vegetarian comfort food presented in a casual, contemporary setting. It is located right opposite to Babulnath Temple. The soothing sound of the temple bells and the food really calm our mind. There is a scientific fact which has been proven that Vegetarian good improves our mood and mental health leading to a better stress-free lifestyle. The interior is very simple with a little detailing, I can only talk about the yellow wall with brass hangings. The kitchen can be seen from our tables. One thing I can assure you all is the methodology they use for cooking is hygienic and the area is spotlessly clean. The table has a dried leaf serving as a coaster with copper utensils giving us a feeling of home cooking. The copper utensils enrich the food served on it. I traveled miles from home to have Dal Bhatti Churma. The Bhatti definitely not blonde, cooked to golden brown greased with ghee. The Bhati ideally is cooked on a coal but I am sure they use a tandoor( earthen pots) to cook them giving these wheat balls a rustic look. The panchmel dal is cooked with ghee, the masalas in the dal are fried in ghee and more ghee is mixed into the dal before serving. None of the five legumes were overcooked each of them complementing each other. It has the right amount of heat and spice. The churma - perfect powdered wheat with the sugar to the quantity that is definitely not over the line sweet. When eaten together with a perfect emulsion on the tongue, from the sweet churma to the spicy dal with the texture of bhati is picture perfect. Turiya Patra with Biscuit Bhakra is a beautiful green patra with the colocasia leaves wrapping the besan so soft and melts in your mouth. Peas give a beautiful crunch. I never taught that ridge gourd could even hero a dish so well. When eaten with the bakhri takes me to Gujarat lands, very authentic and traditional. I had a sweet ending to the meal with Moong Dal ka Halwa. Served hot the delicious moong cooked in ghee and served with garnished pistachio is addictive, a couple of spoons and a good night sleep is assured. I recommend every Vegetarian family to come with a family and spread the togetherness with the...
Read moreSoam is popular vegetarian restaurant which serves a multi-cuisine offerings borrowing from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and some popular South Indian dishes. They have given a twist to some of these borrowed dishes and created their own signature dishes.
It is located in a heritage building, bang opposite the famous Babulnath temple; the location is such that it cannot be missed. The restaurant has a nice lay out of tables which are neither too spaced nor too cramped. Being housed in a 19th century property gives it the advantage of a high ceiling which gives a different look to the restaurant.
They use a table mat made from SAL leaves, these leaves are used in rural India for serving food. They serve food in plates made from KASA which is an alloy made from 85% Copper & 15% Tin and a prolonged use of this alloy has shown to have health benefits.
Coming to the food, they have a lot of seasonal offerings throughout the year along with the regular features. Detailed is my take of what I had here:
MOONG KHAKRA CHAAT [INR 190] A crispy Khakra layered with pre-soaked and spiced Moong Dal and they were topped with finely chopped chinese cabbage, capsicum and tomatoes; a pretty ordinary tasting dish.
NACHNI MAKAI UTTAPPAM [INR 180] Uttappa made from ragi batter & topped with capsicum & fresh corn kernels. It is a healthy alternative to the rice & urad dal regular item.
MASALA CHAAS [INR 140] Masala Chaas was a lovely beverage which was made refreshing by the addition of fresh green coriander.
PAV BHAJI [INR 200] The Pav Bhaji was lovely, the aroma was very captivating. The spices were just making their presence felt without being too harsh on the palate.
VEG DHANSAK [INR 270] A Parsi specialty which a medley of all pulses, cooked together & then pureed. Some special Parsi masala's for the flavour. It was served with brown spiced rice & topped with Birista. They also serve 2 pieces of an Aloo Tikki which
ANJEER ALMOND ICE-CREAM [INR 180] It's their in-house recipe & quite a famous one. I had one spoon of it & then realised its popularity.
Soam serves healthy, adapted & healthy options to popular dishes. It has been around for many years & will...

We started off our Foodscapade ordering Kand Na Chilla, which are essentially light and crispy savory pancakes served with a portion of Dahi. It was something new for us and it tasted really good. It left us wanting more!
The second thing we ordered was Jowar Pita Pockets which was basically a healthy gujurati falafel. Yes, a falafel. Who knew there would be a Gujrati pita pocket? This fusion was definitely a hit. It was extremely delicious and is a must try for all.
Next up on your table was Bajra Methi Dhebra which was a mixture of Bajra and Methi Fulka Puris served with fresh curd.
Coming to the main course, we ordered Faarali Oondhiyu with Raajgiri Puris, Paneer Pudhina Stuffed Paratha which was served with Chole and Raita. The quantity of the dishes were fair enough and really filling. The taste was as good as their fusion, completely amazing.
For beverages, we had to try their signature drink which is one of the favorite drink of almost everyone, a tall fresh glass of Sugarcane Juice. The quantity was huge and it was so refreshing. We enjoyed it till the last sip.
Soam also has a wide range of Mumbai street foods too like chaat and pav bhaji etc. for all the ppl who are not fond of Gujarati food.
The ambiance of the place is just like every other authentic restaurant in South Bombay! Simple, sober yet welcoming with excellent service. It was truly a different kind of foodscapade for us.
