Iconic Girgaum Chowpatty has plenty of eating joints around it, which range from street food to casual dining to fine dining restaurants. Was in the vicinity where we decided to try New York Burrito Company (NYBC). NYBC is located next to La Veggie and serves some hand crafted 100% Vegetarian Mexican Delights. The interiors of the cafe are beautiful. Very well light and bright. It has a ground + level 1 seating. I was extremely impressed with the way level 1 seating was arranged.
As soon as you enter, you are greeted warmly by the staff. Special mention for Mr. Sanjay - extremely courteous and helpful in explaining and guiding us through the menu options. Live Kitchen / Counter where you can choose and pick veggies you like in your Mexican delicacies. On the main wall, they have a cute little story - of how the place was conceptualized. I am not sure, whether it is true! Pablo the Traveler, once went from Mexico City to New York, where he missed his delicious Mexican food. And that's when Pablo decided to open New York Burrito! The wall has beautiful graphics. You may also find a Mexican Hat lying at the counter for customers to click pictures with.
Talking about what all I tried at NYBC -
We started from the Set Platos section of the menu and ordered for Tacos and Nachos. Taco Shells were yum and crispy. They are outsourced. A lot of the stuffings do get repeated in the mexican dishes that I tried, since I am a fan of all the yummy veggies. Black Beans Tacos with different Salsa sauces - Pico De Gallo, Smoky Salsa and topped with Lettuce and Cheese.
Next tried the Nachos - Fresh Crisp Tortilla Chips with Salsa De Quesso (Cheese Sauce) on top! It is not fully loaded with Cheese sauce only, but one can order for sauces separately as well. I personally loved all their sauces - Salsa Roja - chilli based, Salsa Verde - green tomato, and Smoky Salsa or Brown Salsa - Beans and Mexican herbs.
To go along with food, they have couple of lemonade options - Dragon Fruit and Hibiscus Mint! Names suggest all, I personally found both drinks to be average, Feel that NYBC can add more options in drinks. Besides these 2 lemonades, you also have soft drink options and Redbull.
The next few dishes that we had were the Star or the Highlight of the Evening! We had the Mexican Paneer Burrito Bowl and Mexican Mushroom Burrito Roll. Mexican bowl is made with brown rice as base, with a layer of black beans, vegetable fajitas, paneer, some chips and sauces like Cheese Sauce, Salsa Roja, Salsa Verde and Smoky Salsa with some corn and jalapenos topped with sour cream, lettuce and chipotle mayo sauce! Wow! Just amazing. Amazing dish, must try! Those who don’t prefer Paneer, they also offer Tofu, Potatoes, Mushroom and Tex Mex Veg. After the Mexican bowl, we also tried the Burrito Roll, with Mushroom as the base. All the veggies stayed the same like above just that now it was in a roll, which is heated for 10 seconds. So if you prefer rolls, than this is your best bet!
Last but definitely not the least, tried the Mexican Pizza. Trust me its not comparable to any other pizzas that you have had elsewhere. Just loved the wheat base – thin crust. Toppings on the pizza were refried beans, besides the regular ones like capsicum, onions, orange cheddar cheese and regular cheese. Highly recommended if you are open to try something different, trust me you will not be disappointed.
There are no desserts available yet at NYBC. Would definitely suggest them to add few options like Churros, Cajeta or Tres Leche Cakes. It would just be perfect if they can include this to give a wholesome Mexican Meal experience.
All-in-all I really liked the place, the food, the ambience. Definitely a must visit. They have another outlet in Santacruz East and soon will be opening another one in Ghatkopar East....
Read moreLocated opposite the famous Sukh Sagar at Lakozy Mansion in Girgaon Chowpatty Sea Face; New York Burrito Company (NYBC) is a Vegetarian Mexian outlet which you need to visit for the love of the Mexican Food. They also serve JAIN food. They have customised the spread to suit Indian taste with Mexican authenticity and they allow you to customise the dishes as per the needs. We visited this place on a Sunday afternoon. Parking is a little problem here as its on the main road so you need to either come in public transport or find parking space at a distance and walk down here.
They have made the place nice with a big serving size portion on the right where you can see your food being prepard and the best part is everything is customizable. They have 3 tables with 4 chairs each for sitting downstairs and also few high chairs on the side and have an upper area for sitting too which was occupied with kids party on the day of our visit.
Below is our food review:
SET PLATOS: Nachos – In-house crispy tortilla chips topped with a variety of sauces as per the need namely - cheesy sauce, Salsa Verde which is green tomato sauce, Salsa Roe which is red chilli base sauce, along with Smoky Brown Salsa which is Beans and Mexican Herbs. Mexican Creamy Potatoes – Fried potatoes topped with cheese sauce. We felt this to be average as it was cold and basically just friend potatoes with cold sauces. This could be looked into.
DRINKS: Dragon-Fruit Lemonade & Hibiscus Mint Lemonade – Made with Dragon fruit pulp and sugar syrup used while preparing it; we personally found it to be average. Hibiscus Mint Lemonade – A fresh juice extract from the Hibiscus (flower) adding mint, lemon and sugar syrup – this was little better than dragon fruit lemonade but still average. They can add more options to it. They offer Red bull and aerated beverages apart from this.
BASE FOOD: Make Your Own Mexican Bowl – We opted for customised Mexican Bowl and this was a full meal in itself. You have various options to choose from i.e. choose your ingredients – from MAIN i.e. Paneer/Tofu/Potatoes/Mushroom/Tex Mex Veggies; from the HOT section i.e. Brow Rice/White Rice/Fajitas/Pinto Beans/BlackBeans/Refried Beans followed by COLD options i.e. Guacamole/Pico De Gallo/Salsa Fresca/Cheese Sauce/Sour Cream/Lettuce/Ensalada De Maiz (Corn salsa)/Jalapenos/Green Chillies and some SAUCES i.e. Salsa Roja/Salsa Verde/Chipotle Mayo/Smoky Salsa. We loved this one and would recommend you to try this if you don’t want a burrito and simply want to relish all your food in the bow. RECOMMENDED !!
Mexican Burrito – This is another gem; their specialty and try if you love burrito wraps. This can also be customised as per the above options already written in the Mexican Bowl. We customised it and opted for medium size burrito which was topped with various of our options. This is another meal in itself too and your tummy will be heavy after finishing either this or he burrito bowl unless you are gonna share the food. Its tasty, filling and delicious. RECOMMENDED TOO!!
Overall, we had a nice food experience at the NYBC. They provide eco-friendly wooden spoons and forks and also the place is kept neat and clean. The staff is good and friendly and knows the food in detail too. This is a good place for quick Mexican meals. Just one down side is that they do not have any desserts as of now.Washroom is available. The place is value for money and served good Mexican healthy food too. Definitely worth trying this place.

Read moreIf you craving for some real authentic Mexican food then ur quest ends out here.. Let me first tell you this pure vegetarian place is not at small as it looks from outside or portrayed on social media.. It's a decent big AC place having seatings at ground level as well as upper level too.. Ambiance is very impressive having ample light n beautiful seatings with open kitchen concept.. Wooden seatings goes well with white n green coloured walls which create a serene atmosphere .. They have limited but apt menu covering Mexican dishes that will surprise u .. We started here with burrito roll which is usp of this place.. I really loved it to core.. Each bite of it was tantalising my taste buds.. This one was folded well from both ends n was tightly rolled but still it might get messy to eat if not eaten properly so one can even opt for burrito bowl .. We had Jain tacos (just to know how Jain food tasted) out here n trust me it was absolutely delicious.. Had quesadillas n it had three big portion of very well grilled corn tortilla stuffed with beans, capsicum, onion n cheese in it.. Was quite filling one so order accordingly.. We ended with Mexican pizza.. This delectable pizza was prepared on corn tortilla base n even though it was loaded with lots of veggies, cheese, n mayo this one did not get soggy at all.. We completed this dish in some 30/40 mins time n till the last bite it was crunchy.. Every item prepared with tortilla out here was delightful to have more becoz it did not get soggy at all.. We also had dragon fruit lemonade n hibiscus mint lemonade out here n both the drinks were very refreshing n went well with cuisine out here... It's a self service place.. Staff are very well behaved n were very courteous.. Expect food serving time to be bit more as everything out here is prepared fresh in front of us n it might get bit long wait in case of rush but trust me waits worth it .. I'm going for full marks as I felt this place serves awesome Mexican food one can get in town n that too at very reasonable rates specially if you consider quality of food it serves .. Also good care is taken about hygiene..
PS- They do serve Jain food
My recommendations - burrito, tacos, quesadillas, Mexican pizza, dragon...
