Foo is considered to be one of the best Asian restaurants in Mumbai and is famous for its extensive menu. Foo in Japanese Culture means Good Fortune🌸. We got an opportunity to visit this place by the food event organized by Million Angles collaborated with Times Of India.
Following are the list of things we had:-
STARTERS:-
Cottage Cheese, Foo Chilly Oil (V). Spicy Hunan Baby Potato (V). Daikon Radish Cake, Burnt Garlic, Bird Eye Chilly (V). Foo Chilly Chicken (NV). Mongolian Chicken (NV). Crispy Snapper, Black Bean Sauce (NV).
Every starter was delish and was up to the mark. The highlight for us was Crispy Snapper, Black Bean Sauce. This Non-Veg dish was a flavourful blend of fried chicken, tossed in to Black Bean Sauce, and embellished with spring onions. The Black Bean Sauce intensifies the taste of the chicken and gives you a pleasing taste😋.
MAIN COURSE:-
Silken Tofu, Zucchini, Chilly Black Beans with Hakka Noodles (V). Foo Yellow Water Chestnut Curry with Blue Rice (V). Chicken Tossed in Hot Garlic with Blue Rice (NV). Red Snapper, Oyster Sauce, King Chilly with Hakka Noodles (NV).
Every main course dish was delightful and satisfying to eat. The highlight of the day was Foo Yellow Water Chestnut Curry with Blue Rice - A veg dish having a thick yellow Thai curry prepared with broccoli and water chestnut. The gravy was very flavourful, totally satisfying to our taste buds. It is best paired with the all-time favourite - Foo Butter Japanese Fried Blue Rice- Foo makes the best blue rice with subtle flavors of garlic in it. The blue rice is a must-try. The rice gets its colour using flower extract, it is still very well done. It's a treat to both eyes and taste buds. Fully recommended💙.
DRINKS :-
Foo King** - This comes in 2 variants, one with and second without egg white. Both were very unique in taste. A total of 5/5. Pineapple and Ginger Mojito - Minty and sweet, a good one. Fantasy Island - It was coconut and melon flavoured drink. Superb one! Taxi Ghost - An ice-cold one with strong alcohol content. Average🍸.
DESSERTS:-
Hazelnut Dome - It is creamy on top with a soft brownie base to it having a silky texture. Tasted similar to Ferrero Rocher. A good small dessert. Snickerz – Nuts and peanut butter covered with chocolate having a gooey texture. Its worth a try🍮.
AMBIENCE:-
This place has nice decor with the bright red lanterns and has a typical Asian feel to it, such a mood-lifting ambience this place has🔥.
VERDICT - Every dish was peculiar in itself and had an Asian touch to it. Through our experience, we can tell every dish was made by love and attention. The service was very quick and our server was very helpful and courteous. Shoutout to Mr. Shailash Makwana and his team for giving us such a great experience. We will be visiting this place again. Would recommend...
Read moreSearching for a dinner venue after a movie, we roamed around in High Street Phoenix, and a red coloured sign saying "Foo" looked inviting so in we walked. Being a weekday it was expectedly unoccupied, so we had the choice of our seating spot. We picked one further inside, where the music had lost some of it's decibels. I instantly liked the Japanesey theme, the red decor, the pink leafed tree, and the mellow lighting. We opened our innings with Paloma for my friend, a mocktail since he was driving, and a cocktail for me, Foo Queen. The former was a grapefruit and lime based drink, the latter being a mix of vodka and tequila. Both were nice, especially the cocktail, though my only criticism would be that of it having too much ice, which lead to the drink getting diluted as I emptied it. For starters we ordered a sushi, Nikkei Prawn Tempura Uramaki and dimsums, Truffle Chicken Siu Mai. The sushi was excellent, the prawns were crispy just the way I like them. The dimsums were the surprise package, with plenty of meat and not too thick a layer of dough, we savoured every bite of it. Up next was Peking Duck with Pancake, and here's where the streak of Foo's impressive preparations snapped. The (seemingly) rice based pancakes were totally bland, while the duck and the dressings were really dry. Adding the plum and mustard sauces helped a bit, but overall the dish was a major letdown. My second drink was Boulevardier, whiskey based cocktail, made strong with less ice, as per my request, and it was beautiful. For all the Jameson fans, I highly recommend this one. We decided to play it safe for the mains, and opted for Egg and Chicken Fried Rice. With a large serving size, and not at all dry rice, we liked this one, particularly as the egg flavours came through very well. Finally, for dessert we had the Hazelnut Dome, an outright winner. The chocolate was rich, the vanilla ice cream was thick, we loved every bit of it. To sum up then, Foo gets most things right, be it food or drinks. The staff is polite, attentive as well as informative, so choosing your orders is that much easier. The focus is mainly on small plates, so some may not find it great value for money, though I feel connoisseurs of the Oriental cuisine will have a...
Read moreruined the evening. If you are not from India and if you like Asian cuisine, then I do not advise you to come here. I asked for tom yam (usually this is a soup, I’ve never heard that there is tom yum rice, I even checked on Google, there is no such definition), they brought a plate of rice, then changed it to soup, but from something similar to tom yum there was only the taste of spices and Who actually puts tomatoes in that pit??? For comparison, I’ll add a photo of what the tom yam should look like and what kind they brought me. Next, I asked for sushi: I asked if there was any that wasn’t spicy? They answer me: “Yes, ma’am, there are, these are these.” I look for hot sauce in them. Why do I come to a good restaurant where, in theory, everyone should understand English? or do you think that you can cook not according to a recipe, but as you came up with? or is it possible not to satisfy a visitor’s request if he doesn’t want spicy sushi??? As a result, I ordered dessert and bobo tea, which turned out to be delicious. I also liked the decor and atmosphere, quiet pleasant music, the attitude of the staff is good, but perhaps in the Indian language you will not have problems, but I will not come here again.
and it’s also terribly annoying that one question had to be asked several times. They remember only one dish and forget the rest. here I can understand them, there are a lot of guests, it’s impossible to remember everything, I myself forgot when I worked as a waiter, but when the cases began to repeat themselves, we talked with the management and they agreed that we use notepads so as not to forget what the client ordered. There's no shame in using notepads, it's worse when the client is nervous and waiting for you to ask the question again.
It was nice when I forgot something in a restaurant, the waiter caught up with me and gave it back. thank...
