It’s truly said that, “Compassion is the best side effect of being vegan”. Veganism is not just about putting an end to animal cruelty but is rather a holistic way to create a sustainable environment for all living beings.

It’s a compassionate lifestyle which has countless benefits for us-humans, the environment and undoubtedly for the animals; because the accelerating rate at which factory farming is increasing is rather alarming! Besides cutting down forests for land, polluting air & water bodies, the gruesome cruelty that animals endure to please the palate and human craves is appalling & disturbing!

However, of late with awareness about the perils of using animal products, every year more and more people are making the decision to go vegan! A vegan diet can be one of the healthiest ways to live and No, it doesn’t necessarily need to be bland & tasteless!

I being a pure vegetarian have always vouched for the benefits of a meatless diet but after a visit to the Rare Earth – The Vegan Cafe, I can easily say that it is not difficult to transit to a vegan diet and I had the most refreshing, healthiest & tastiest food there.

The Rare Earth, along with the cafe has a well- stocked organic store too, making it the one stop for your entire vegan fix.

The cafe has a wide menu with an array of options from Smoothies, Salads, Pizza, Thai curries to Chinese. Here’s what I had -

Guacamole Bruschetta – Smashed Avacado with onion, tomatoes and lemon juice. Tessarossa Pizza – Onion, Garlic, Capsicum, Chillies, and Sundried tomatoes with vegan homemade cheese. Absolutely delicious. Kulfis – Rose, Coffee, chocolate Kheema Patty Burger – Prepared with Soya minced patty, onion, tomatoes, sriracha, mayonnaise, jalapenos Mock Stick – Soya meat sticks Shawarma – Soya meat rolled in all purpose flour roti. Roasted Pumpkin Soup – Creamy pumpkin soup flavoured with Thyme, Rosemary and Fresh Vegetable. Chicken Nuggets – Mock nuggets. One of the best. Tried both Orange Juice & Watermelon Juice – Very refreshing. Vegan Falooda was something that I was trying for the first time and it was so amazing. Made with Almond Milk, Rice Vermicelli, Chia Seeds & Rose syrup – a must try!

Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian or a non vegetarian, definitely visit this place for a great food experience, (you never know you may end up changing your food choices)....

The worst experience purchasing from their online portal. After tracking my shipment, I noticed that it been returned to the store, so I wrote to them to check on the shipment. They said it would be shipped out the next day. One week goes by and I have nothing from them, I write back and they say “it’s not our fault, the courier company made a mistake. Despite the courier company having made a mistake, I did write and inform them that the shipment was returned, and they were suppose to ship out the next day so i understand how they are still blaming the courier company. And yet! After this it still takes them another 10 days to ship my goods to me! This time by hand delivery. I don’t know why hand delivery from Khar to marine drive takes 10 days. Even walking that distance doesn’t take that long. After having received the deliver I noticed that they had delivered 2 of the items when I had only bought one. And that too they charged me Rs. 500 for the item which on their online shop costs Rs. 300! So I write back to them quite frustrated, and so begins another long pointless excuse filled conversation where the owner claims someone called to ask me how much I had ordered and I said 2 items. Note: no one ever called me. Additionally even if I did order and didn’t pay, why was a over charged for the item. I have been following up with the owner about this time and time again, for 5 weeks at this point, and he claims absolutely no responsibility for the mistake and is constantly blaming his staff. I am of the belief that a company is only as good as its management, and it’s easy for him to blame someone he hired and clearly didn’t train properly. Mistakes happen in all business but Sameer was rude, and had an attitude where an apology is clearly beyond him. A simple apology could have gone a long way. Anyway, my order was placed on Jan 23, today is March 12th. He claims he will refund me the money that I was over charged but frankly I’m not holding my breath. I would not recommend anyone buy from them ever again. There are better and more efficiently run organic and vegan places all...

The beauty of the vegan community is the kindness and commitment towards this beautiful philosophy of life and one such example is Shami Sethi who is running an amazing cafe RARE EARTH -The Organic Store in Khar, Mumbai.

Even though we got connected through facebook, I had instant liking towards him. He has not just created an amazing menu which is delicious and soulful but is a great resilient soul who managed to survive all odds even during COVID to keep his passion, his cafe alive.

There are a few important points about this cafe which I want to share here. Firstly, it's located in a very good location so if you're in Khar, Bandra or Santacruz do visit it. Secondly and most importantly the food here is absolutely delicious and ranges from gluten free, nutritious healthiest one to to finger licking junk foods. They also take prior orders to host small events accommodating around 25-35 around the budget you decide. The menu here is so big that it would take me multiple visits probably a year to taste all of it. Thirdly, Shami ji is an absolute pleasure to meet as he is an amazing host who would give the best suggestions with the menu to try out and will also keep you entertained with his amazing personality. I wish more cafe owners were like him and understood how to keep the environment lively, informal and comfortable. The chief entertainment officer, Zorro is absolutely adorable and the best complimentary host you can have who showers you with hugs, wet noses and everlasting tail wags. And most importantly if you're a #vegan or not, you'll never regret visiting this cafe. It's my promise. If you ever come back dissatisfied with the food or the host, I'll personally apologize to you.

Thank you Shamiji for the delicious food that you served me. I loved your roasted pumpkin soup, the kebab platter and the cherry on the cake was your complimentary brownie with icecream inside the lotus biscoff. I haven't had a better brownie in years.

Hope to see you and Zorro soon. And lots of love and good wishes for your cafe. Love...

My husband and I dined here for lunch a couple times. The first time we came, Shami was a fantastic host. We had such a great time. We sat inside and ordered the red sauce pasta and the butter tofu curry, a sol khadi drink, smoothie and strawberry cheesecake to share. We enjoyed the food/drinks thoroughly and had great chats with Shami! He told us to come back and suggested he would recommend what dishes we would order the next time. We returned exactly one week later however didn’t feel the same sort of hospitality from Shami for whatever reason. This time we also sat outside and noticed the unorganised surroundings which detracted from the experience. Inside was much nicer. We did however enjoy the food - this time ordering the pink sauce pasta and I think it was the Alfredo (our own selections from the menu). We grabbed some ice creams to go and purchased some chocolate from the shop part of the restaurant. Everything was well priced. The two visits made for an interesting experience 🤷🏽‍♀️ tasty food though! PS - Shami’s dog Zoro is also very cute and seems to be a calm natured dog.

For this order, I tried their Super Veg pizza for the first time... Hands down the best vegan pizza I have had since I turned vegan in 2020. My mum is not a vegan, but loves pizzas. She loved the Super Veg Pizza too. This is the third time I had ordered the Chilli chicken pizza. The mock chicken they use is perfect along with a freshly baked, whole wheat base, and perfect vegan cheese. (This one is slightly spicy to the extent that it would be perfect for most people. But if you have really low spice tolerance, you could try another mock meat pizza). And the strawberry cheesecake was perfect. It was sweet but not too sweet just like how a cheesecake should be. These photos don't do justice to how delicious the pizzas and cheesecake were. I have ordered a few times from Rare Earth and one can really feel the difference in the quality of their food and care with which their food is made vs the one you would find in many vegan cafes in Bandra.
