FIRKI is the place located in very famous area in Mumbai where there are many more restaurant in this area I visited this place for my dinner this place is just opposite to High Street Phoniex Mall which is famous in that area and just below the fly over. This place is located on the main road so it is easy to find this place you can go to this place using Google Map it will take you to the right place. As we went to the restaurant there is a valet parking option available so if you are coming by your car or bike you do not have to worry about the parking as we went in to the restaurant we saw that the restaurant was divided in two parts one was down and the other one was upstairs and there was a small waiting area just after the main entrance. As we went in to the restaurant we got our table soon as it was a week day. They told me that the restaurant get full on weekend the place has good interior the place is big with nice comfort sitting the restaurant has many decorative items on the walls there are paintings all over there are lamps above each and every table which looks good overall interior is good you will get the best privacy and comfortable sitting. Coming to the service the service is really good at this place they have many staffs working on the ground special thanks to Mr. Sohel who was serving us on our table he was good at his service the communication skill was good he was friendly to us he helped us in all the possible ways he can his service was fast and quick he also helped us is selecting some of the dishes from the menu overall good service. Coming to the food the food was served fresh this is the best place for vegetarian people they have really big menu where there are multi cuisine food if you get confused by the menu don’t worry just ask the steward for the help they will help you in all the possible way they can we tried different food at this place and I really loved almost all of them. If you are looking for some good vegetarian place you must definitely give this place a try. Coming to the food we had. WHAT WE HAD DRINKS
"DECENT VARIETY, GOOD FOOD but SLOW SERVICE"
The place is nicely illuminated. The walls are nicely done up with some nice miniature puppets. There is a metal pygmy version of giant wheel with small puppets placed in it. They have wrought iron chairs, with plastic mesh as a backrest, a design from the bygone era and seat covers of varied colours. The ambience is cheerful on the whole.
MAKAI TOAST: Mini Buns were topped with grated corn, cheese and corn kernels. These were then sprinkled with oregano and chili flakes. The miniature Buns were soft, spongy and freshly baked. The combination of the topping made the whole end product a bit bland.
MINI KHASTA KACHORI: Miniature Khasta Kachori which were the size of the puri on which Sev Puri is served on the streets of Mumbai. The kachori was flaky and crispy. The stuffing was made of moong dal and topped with dahi, sev, red chili powder and fresh coriander. The green pudina chutney which was served added the zing to the Kachori. RECOMMENDED
PAV BHAJI: We had requested the Bhaji to be served less spicy. It was made so but it lacked an overall appeal that the dish elicits. It turned out to be pretty ordinary fare. The size of the Pav was also found wanting, can’t understand the logic in serving small sized Pav when they can source a bigger size. Although the Pav was doused in loads of butter, they were a bit flaky and crumbs came off while the unbuttered portions were broken. AVOIDABLE.
BEDMI PURI ALOO SHAAK: This dish was the star of the evening. This preparation originates from the kitchens of Uttar Pradesh especially Mathura, Agra & Benaras. Honestly, I was surprised to find in the menu which is dominated by the Gujratai / Rajasthani dishes.
Bedmi Puri, pronounced as bay-duh-me, is a puri stuffed with a spiced mixture of moong dal or urad dal. Coming to the dish served on my table, the puffed puri was absent but it was more like a Lacchha Paratha and was baked crisp on a tava instead of deep frying; a healthier option is all I can say. The stuffing was nice and spicy. The Aloo subzi was the one which took the cake. The boiled chunks of Aloo were mashed unevenly which is how it ought to be done. They were then tossed and cooked in spicy brown gravy and topped with fresh green coriander. YOU CAN’T MISS IT, ABSOLUTELY RECOMMENDED
MASALA CHAAS: Chaas was nicely flavoured though I felt that the glass could have been a bit taller.
JALJEERA: Jaljeera was decent appetizer which was served cold.
The total tab for the evening came to Rs.1410 without taxes & levies for 2 persons. I feel it is a bit on the higher side considering that except the Bedmi Puri nothing was worth remembering or revisiting; maybe it’s the location for which we pay rather than the food & services.
Service was a letdown to say the least. No attitude or high handedness or arrogance but the sheer slowness bored me to death. Service was with a smile but there was quite a lag in between orders.
You need to speed up guys.
To sum up, it was neither a memorable experience nor something to be forgotten. This place is the expensive version of Swati or Soam in terms of the common offerings. However by sheer vintage, both the places score high where FIRKI has missed out; Pav Bhaji & service. FIRKI can at best be termed as a one...
