In town for a few days in his monthly visits, my father asked me to decide a place to eat biryani at with a colleague from office. Amongst multiple other options, something urged me to visit this cozy little restaurant tucked away right next to the Khar railway station. So it was decided, and this is perhaps one of the greater decisions made when it comes to cuisine I’ve made.
The moment we entered, we asked them what dish is their speciality. “Say no more” indicated Chef Kunal, a man of incredibly high standards when it comes to cooking, and he holds the same high regard for those who he cooks for. In a second, we were made to forget that the menu existed, and the chef was to bring us why he assured were the dishes we’d love the most: Murgh Angara Kebab and Lucknowi Gosht Biryani along with Thums Up.
First came the Murgh Angara Kebab, after a good fifteen to twenty minutes. The wait signified some level of authenticity we thought, only to be blown away on levels beyond imagination. The masala seemed to be handpicked and authentic as ever, the preparation of the chicken itself was just perfect. Imagine a melt in mouth kebab that had the exact balance you’d expect between flavours. Perhaps some of the best kebabs you’d find in Bombay, and that is keeping in mind some rich history of the city.
Then came the Biryani, with the mutton cooked ever so well, and the gravy inside the biryani itself was brilliant in taste, uplifted by the hint of mint and fried onions to top the dish off. A large portion sufficed for three hungry men who devoured chicken kebabs just shortly before. But of course, we had to try more! The food was just that good.
So then came the Mutton Seekh Kebab, and every bite spelled the word AUTHENTICITY. Paired with Thums Up, and a proud father who narrated the journey of his son and our chef in great detail. One of the best dinners I’ve eaten. And make no mistake, Chef Kunal himself is one of the most fascinating people to converse with. As we realised his culinary genius, another powerful realisation hit me as we journeyed back- The most crucial ingredient in The Bombay Curry was no masala, but rather honesty. The honesty of ingredients and recipe. The ingredients add to the flavour, while not compromising on health. The chicken never ever tasted or even looked as thought it was frozen. The food is cooked using the healthiest oil, and no dish ever feels like it was bathed in it either. Remarkable standards. Authentic taste.
For those wondering, I myself am shocked to find myself speak so much about the place and its people, but that is just how good it was. It feels inspiring to see such places and all you can hope for is more and more go here. In a day and age where ten lakh rupees gets you a paid post by an internet personality, here is a place that actually deserves to be spoken about, to be tried and tasted.
I can’t wait to be back. Next time, it’s going to be the Butter Chicken for me. A top, top spot in the...
Read moreMy first experience at Bombay Curry in Khar West was a mix of excitement and unexpected challenges. My friend and I were thrilled to try the food there, despite the long wait that greeted us upon arrival. Eventually, we got seated at a table for four, even though we were only two.
Soon after settling in, another family arrived and began waiting for a spot. Our server, Chef Kunal, took our order promptly, which is always a good sign. However, a few moments later, he approached us with a request to shift to a different table. The new seating arrangement was far from comfortable—just a small table with one chair, surrounded by noise from a cooler that was blowing hot air. It was not the dining experience we had hoped for.
We communicated our discomfort multiple times, requesting to remain at our original table. they told us two seat will get available you guy's can seat over there, but it's been 10 min ,15 min, the seat was not available However, the situation remained frustrating as we stood outside, growing hungrier.
Realizing the time was slipping away, we made the decision to switch to a nearby restaurant, Malvan kinara. Because we were so hungry and it was almost 11pm at night. Once we settled in and placed our order there, to our surprise, Chef Kunal from outside the restaurant, shouting "us do ladki ko bulao" searching for us. He began blaming us in front of everyone for “disappearing” after placing an order. When we explained our discomfort with the cooler and the seating arrangement, he seemed dismissive, focusing instead on his food rather than our experience.
It was disheartening to see him argue publicly, disregarding our side of the situation. All we wanted was a comfortable dining experience, not an altercation between restaurant owners. The other restaurant's owner seemed confused by the scene unfolding, highlighting how unprofessional it looked.
Chef Kunal's behavior made it clear that he did not understand the importance of customer satisfaction. If diners feel uncomfortable or unhappy, it affects the overall atmosphere and recommendation of the restaurant. Unfortunately, my first visit to Bombay Curry was overshadowed by this encounter rather than the culinary delights we had anticipated.
In the end, what mattered most was that we found a pleasant atmosphere where we could enjoy our meal. However, the lesson remains clear: treating customers with respect and understanding is crucial for any dining...
Read moreOrdered home delivery from The Bombay Curry ( TBC ) located in Khar.
Delivery took approx 35-40 mins.
Food was delivered hot, well packed and tightly sealed which dint cause any wreckage or spills.
My Veg Order for two was as follows :-
STARTER
Khumb Galwati Kebab :- As the name suggests these beauties are so soft that they will instantly melt in your mouth making you fall in love with them . Veg Galouti Kabab’s are served on crispy Naan with chutney on the side. The Naan and Chutney blend beautifully with the Kebab’s. You get 6 pieces which are an absolute treat. Highly recommend this starter.
MAINS
Kadai Mushroom - Loved the combination of fresh Mushroom mixed in a medium spicy onion tomato gravy. A Popular dish which goes well with Rotis, Naan & Lachha Paratha. For all Mushroom lovers who would want a medium spicy main ( without paneer ) to complement their Rotis & Naan do try this main.
Dal Makhani :- The fragrance & aroma of whole spices and creaminess of lentils just balanced the Dal beautifully without the spices or lentils overpowering one another. A must have for all Punjabi food lovers who can’t resist a rich & creamy Dal Makhani. Enjoy it with Tandoori Roti or Cheese Naan.
BREAD
Aloo Kulcha :- This Aloo stuffed Kulcha was tasty & humongous. Loved the aloo stuffing in terms of quantity & quality. A refreshing change to your usual Rotis, Naan & Paratha.
Cheese Naan :- The amount of Cheese used was subtle and dint over power in any way which surprisingly complimented the Dal Makhani & Kadai Mushroom dishes pretty well tbh.
BIRYANI
• Paneer Tikka Biryani - Being a Paneer fan I had to try this dish. On opening the box the aroma was captivating. Flavourful Biryani filled with Soft Chunky Paneer pieces embedded between the tikka masala gravy with roasted onions sprinkled on top was a treat for my eyes. They serve Raita on the side which neutralises the flavour to an extent. Biryani was tasty & quite heavy tbh.
Overall Summary
The packaging was impeccable as there were no spills / leaks either from the Mains, Chutney or Raita. The Naan & Kulchas were well wrapped in foil keeping it warm which was good to see.
Kudos to Chef Kunal who runs this place for taking personal care for each & every dish prepared as you can see the effort in each dish in terms of oil, flavours, taste & quality.
