I recently visited Ustaadi in Crawford Market and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Despite my background in the F&B industry and management, which allows me to understand the intricacies of running a restaurant, I found several issues that highlighted poor management and service quality. First and foremost, the communication skills of the staff were severely lacking. Basic inquiries about the menu and seating arrangements were met with confusion and unhelpful responses. This lack of clear communication is unacceptable in any dining establishment. Secondly, there was a noticeable bias towards larger groups of people. It was evident that the staff prioritized these groups, often at the expense of smaller parties. This favoritism created an unwelcoming atmosphere for those not dining in large numbers. Additionally, the staff appeared to be unskilled and poorly trained. Simple tasks such as taking orders and serving dishes were mishandled, leading to a chaotic dining experience. The lack of a proper waiting list compounded this issue, as there was no organized system to manage incoming guests. This resulted in long and frustrating wait times. I also observed a blatant favoritism towards younger guests. This age-based bias was disheartening and unprofessional, contributing to an overall negative impression of the restaurant's customer service. Finding the entry to the restaurant was another challenge. The establishment is located within an area that is perpetually under construction, making it difficult to locate and access. This inconvenience only adds to the overall poor experience. Despite these issues, I must mention that the food at Ustaadi was good, which is why I have dined there four times before. However, this recent visit highlighted significant management problems that overshadowed the quality of the food. Ustaadi's poor management skills are evident in their biased service, unskilled staff, and inadequate communication. Despite my expertise and understanding of the industry, it was clear that the restaurant's management failed to uphold basic standards. Rules and proper practices are essential for a reason, and their neglect at Ustaadi is both disappointing and...
Read moreZaffran meaning Saffron, is something widely used in Indian Cuisine and the name is apt for a place serving lip smacking Indian Food. This place impressed me with its hospitality, ambience and food. Very few places get in right to on all the three parameters. It is located a floor above the food court in the top left corner. This place can be reached with the help of mini escalotor. The restaurant has a huge seating area but during dinner time I saw that almost all tables were occupied. The vibe of the place was so serene and warm. I liked how the tables were placed at reasonable distance to respect the privacy. We started our dinner with Veg. Platter. This was an assortment of the best items from the menu especially curated on request. It had the following: Tandoori Aloo: There is a usual tendency of avoiding Aloo when one eats out, but this came as a surprise in terms of its flavours. Right balance of spices, this came as a perfection. Panner Tikka: This was marinated well. Big chunks of Panner. The only downside was the fact that the spices didn't reach the center. Maybe adding some masala could help it. For the mains we had Dumz subz handi zaffrani. It had assorted vegetables and was cooked in saffron gravy. Full marks to the chef for this. Not overly spicy, this is a must try on the menu.
The waiters and restaurant manager make sure to look by your table and your requirements. Extremely courteous. The order arrives in a decent span time. As long as I don't have to wait in between my meals for my breads to arrive. Everything went smooth. Quality was consistent well amongst most of their preparation considering most of their varieties, they seem to be all rounder in most of the things they serve, food was tasty, quantity...
