Pondichery has been seeing an influx of New Restaurants as of Recent with alot of concentration on Ambience, Theme and Hospitality.
Sicilys is definitely one among the top with Xtasi with their impeccable Hospitality and Chic "Coming-of-Age" ambience which will definitely draw attention from the Younger Crowd that Frequents Pondichery Nowadays.
Positioned strategically Opposite Rocky Beach on Goubert Avenue Between GMT and Richie Rich. Sicilys holds the prime spot to lure in customers in their target base.
Ambience: A very Americanized Interior definitely makes you feel like you've stepped into a Cafe somewhere in the states and out of Pondichery.
Alcohol? Unfortunately they don't sell alcohol- Yet. Though they are planning on opening a Resto bar on the Upper Floor. Besides this a friend of mine and myself believed it would fit perfectly if they added a Karaoke Night to go with the ambience.
Food: What We Ordered:
Classic BLT (6") (Rs.295): Made with a Beautiful Toasted Baguette buttered with Garlic and Herbs, Crispy bacon, Lettuce, Tomato's and Mayo. Served with Coleslaw and A side of Fries.
Fries and Coleslaw was perfect. The BLT was brilliant, though a few minor changes I felt could be made. The Mayo was a little on the lighter side, a use of any other Mayo based sauce would have given the BLT a little bit more juice, which without it was a tad bit dry.
Handmade Beef Burger (Rs.325): Beautifully toasted bun, not too soft and not too crumbly. Held the burger together very well. Amongst the filling was Mayo, Mustard, jalapenos, Caramalized onions and Tomatoes. Beef Patty was perfect, Melt in your mouth minced beef tenderloin with hints of wine, onion and garlic. Though the Patty was nothing short of perfect for the price, the wine marinade from the Patty along with the Mayo and Mustard easily overpowered the taste of good meat underneath. This could easily be improved on by either thickening the patty or reducing the amount of sauces used. Lettuce could also help balance out the overpowering sauces. I personally prefer my Patty with broken pepper over onion and garlic mix. But this went well as it is. Again, fries and Coleslaw was nothing less of Perfect.
Chocolate brownie: Good size Chocolate brownie was a great way to end a filling meal. ๐ I just realized they billed me for a Cheesecake over a Brownie. I'd be disappointed if the prices are very much different. Either way, this seems to be priced at (Rs.150)
All in all, a great place with great Ambience. Definitely will click with the younger generation. Though it's not exactly VFM as it's priced a little higher than my College Student Budget, it's definitely a place to take your Girl out for a Date and have some Great...
ย ย ย Read moreWe had an early dinner on April 17, 2025. At 5:50, we saw a board outside Sicily's stating happy hours offer with a Kingfisher beer free with grilled prawns and a medium pizza free with two cocktails. It was also mentioned that the offer was from 3:00 to 6:30. When we enquired, wait staff said it was only up to 6:00, red flag #1. Still we went in. Retrospectively thinking, the wait staff wanted us to walk in immediately or lose out on the happy hours offer.
We ordered two cocktails priced 450/- each and grilled prawns priced 650/-, had our food on the tables outside. The food arrived within a reasonable period of time and was excellent, lip smacking actually and no complaints there. The weather was great and there was a very friendly dog asleep under the bench.
It was at this point that things began going downhill. We asked for the bill and the prawn was priced at 750/-, 100/- over the menu. When we asked why the difference, the waiter said the extra 100 was for the beer, I said that it's not done, and when I pointed out the board and asked why the extra charge, he got angry about that and got aggressive. I gave him my card but he refused to swipe it and kept arguing. I was with family, so went in, paid cash and left. Whole experience was spoilt by wait staff with very poor attitude, also the difference of 100 bucks over price in menu card, small amount but that's misrepresentation. I told the wait staff that his tip was cancelled due to his behaviour. I made sure to collect even the three rupees change from them.
I normally never leave a poor review, particularly singling out one particular individual since everyone works hard to put food on the table (pun there) but I felt disrespected that day. It took me ten days before I decided to post this review.
PS: A request to the owner. Please explain what happy hours means to your employees. They made it sad...
