I recently visited Surguru Spot in Pondicherry, and it was one of the best South Indian meals I've had in a long time. I ordered the ghee masala dosa, vada, a mango lassi, and fresh mango juice—and every item was bursting with flavor.
The ghee masala dosa was the clear highlight. It was perfectly crisp with just the right amount of ghee, and the potato masala inside was well-seasoned and comforting. The chutneys served alongside—especially the coconut one—were fresh and paired beautifully with the dosa and vada. Speaking of the vada, it was hot, crunchy on the outside, and fluffy inside—exactly how a good vada should be.
The mango lassi was thick, creamy, and not overly sweet—just refreshing. The mango juice tasted like it had come straight from fresh ripe mangoes—pure and natural, with no artificial aftertaste. Both drinks were incredibly satisfying, especially in Pondicherry’s warm weather.
What impressed me equally was the service. The staff were courteous and quick, despite the place being quite busy. They helped with recommendations and made sure everything was served promptly and hot. The ambiance is clean, comfortable, and welcoming—a great spot for solo travelers, families, or small groups.
If you're in Pondicherry and craving authentic South Indian food, I’d highly recommend giving Surguru Spot a try. Delicious food, great service, and reasonable prices—it really ticks...
Read moreServes tasty and reasonably priced pure vegetarian (onion-garlic included). No points for guessing the waiting time on weekends (we went on a Saturday and waited 25 minutes for a table for 3). It took 10 more minutes for the order to get served on the table. The special thali (south indian meal) was a balanced affair of variety and quantity. For frugal to moderate appetite folks one thali may suffice for two. We are not sure whether extra servings of curries are served or not since we did not required any. The taste was to our liking and we enjoyed the meal. We also ordered Dry Gobhi Manchurian which was very well.cooked with spring onions, garlic and green capsicum. Another tasty dish. Chapati & Koorma And South Indian Parotha& Koorma (maida ka lachcha paratha) was flaky and very well roasted. Mind the Koormas were distinct for both. Chapati was served with small size diced vegetables in white gravy (smooth, fragrant and low on spices and oil) while paratha was served in tomato gravy (aggressive, spicy with a bit of extra oil) and the vegetables were medium size diced. Overall it was a good lunch spread. The staff was courteous and well meaning (balancing regulars and tourists is tricky) and the service given the occupany was prompt.

I had been to many places. But, this is the only restaurant which made me feel - "whatever the cost be, let me have food for full stomach ". Such an awesome taste and quality!!!
First, I ordered a set of idli. They brought two idlis with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, tomato thokku, idli podi and sambar. Idli was awesome. So soft, smooth and hot and went melting inside the mouth. These idli dipped along with the chutney's and sambar they had provided, took directly to the paradise and gave a divine touch!! Really, a wonderful taste!
Next, I had ordered pongal with medhu vada. Wow, man ! Too delicious.. The taste of the chutney's and sambar were unmatchable with any other places I had so far..
Finally, had a coffee. Quality and quantity of the coffee was worth the entire bill!! Such an impressive coffee. Along with the coffee cup, they also kept another cup with sugar cubes. Had two cubes of them dipped into the coffee cup and when stirred, they melted very quickly and gave a wonderful taste.
Overall, fantastic experience. Worth it having food here!! Never...
