The place is an institution. The longstanding bakery is the go-to place for mawa cakes, shrewsberry cookiee, and other baked goods, and to the tourists, it’s a Pune icon to take something from for their loved ones.
I have been going to Kayani Bakery since 2011, and its craze has only increased with time. Now, you have to stand in a queue at any given time to enjoy a few of there offerings, and if you arrive a little late, you might not get what you want.
But is all the hype really worth it?
Let’s find out.
There is not much to the ambience of this place, it’s a small place with a long line of people waiting to get their 2 mins inside the shop. The lines moves fast, but it is a line and who likes standing in a line. So, I won’t comment much on the ambience.
Now the food. Over time, I have tried a lot of there offerings.
Shrewsbury cookies: Delicate, rich and delicious. These cookies are definitely cloud like and beautiful with a hot cup of tea, but are Kayani’s biscuits exceptionally great? Perhaps not. 4/5
Mawa cake: Soft, spongy and mildly sweet, but again, nothing outstanding. 4/5
Brazil nut cookies: These are great. Amazing flavours and satisfying crunch. 4.5/5
Wine cookies: Good. 4/5
The place is definitely a scrumptious hit of nostalgia, but as a bakery of cakes and cookies, I would rate them 4/5 at best. Some of there offerings like cream rolls and khari are quite ordinary.
As far as the service is concerned, they are cakes are literally selling like hot cakes, and that shows in there service. They are quick, efficient, but they don’t necessarily care about you, as such. They just want to fulfill the order and move on. 3/5 PS: The prices are slightly on the higher...
Read moreKayani Bakery on East Street in Camp is practically a Pune institution. I’m pretty sure every Punekar has a soft spot for this place, and I’m no exception. It’s one of those timeless spots where the aroma of freshly baked goods hits you like a warm hug the second you step inside.
I have some nostalgic memories tied to this place, too. Every time I visited my uncle he’d take me to two legendary spots: Budhani for their irresistible chivda and Kayani’s for their iconic Shrewsbury biscuits. These two stops became almost sacred rituals. It didn’t matter what else was on the agenda, as long as we made those two pit stops, everything else could wait.
And here's the best part: not much has changed at Kayani. The place still looks exactly the same—old-school charm intact, with a dash of nostalgia hanging in the air like the scent of buttered bread. Sure, they've adapted to the times, adding a counter for Zomato and Swiggy orders, and even hired a bodyguard to manage the growing crowds (which, let’s face it, isn’t exactly a bad problem to have). The queue wasnt as crazy, but there’s something endearing about seeing people line up just for that perfect biscuit.
Shrewsbury biscuits are light, crisp, buttery, and with just the right amount of sweetness—it's basically a bite of heaven. Their wine biscuits are worth the hype, and the tutti-frutti cake is a slice of retro bliss that somehow takes you back to simpler times.
So, whether you’re picking up a box of biscuits to gift or just treating yourself, Kayani Bakery is one of those places that never disappoints. It’s like an edible memory in every bite—comforting, familiar, and...
