Well today finally I was able to visit Kwality @ East Street. I had longed to go the place, specially since so many of my friends had spoken so high about it. So after spending more than a decade in the city, I was finally able to match my time and hunger to go to this place. My 1st impression was, why so less crowd when the place is so good. Well, then I gave it a reason myself. Possibly, it's 1st of Jan, hence most patrons were still recovering from the night's blast. Same was the case with restaurant staff. Hardly any. Well, I reasoned it out and took our seat. Well, it seems same was the case in the kitchen and was run by support staff only. In the starters, Paneer was saur in the Chilly Paneer and in the main course, rice was only half cooked in the Mutton Biryani, or must I say, mutton pulao.
Well, I am not writing the place off yet. However, it seems the place was still serving the left overs of the previous party night. I will certainly give this place another try, though not sure how soon, before I cut this off from my list of place one must visit it he/she has a smacking tongue and appetite as I have. Hope the place also thinks of how they must keep up with the quality of food they have been always...

Bad service, only two waiters for the whole restaurant ..they seemed demotivated which resulted in pretty cheeky statements, like sorry this item not available, our cook is not on duty. This was the response for two or three items that we requested. The other waiter who brought naans was impatient when one of us could not decide whether she wanted a naan, so he dumped the plate saying: eena meena mina mo.. make up your minds" then walked away.
Keep in mind there was only one family and us in the restaurant.
When the bill came, our American host was unable to pay with his card being rejected . We asked for another machine and was told that the restaurant has only one machine. We asked for the manager and told no manager in the restaurant.. unbelievable.
Bill was paid via another guest.
Something has gone pretty wrong with this well known restaurant, for sure.
Wouldn't ever...
Read moreFirst of all, this restaurant has well known history that its India's first chain of restaurants opened in cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Surat, Pune and couple of other cities. You can find old pictures of famous personalities in 60's & 70's. The facade and interiors gave a nostalgic look, however I felt that it has past its prime.
Staff here are very courteous and friendly. When I asked for their recommendations on my order, I got prompt response with good details which gave me confidence to try out Miloni Subzee and Lachcha Paratha. I found brown gravy well cooked and spice were perfectly blended with vegetables, nice aroma added to its taste. Paratha were soft and crispy.
Although I was there for quick lunch and my purpose was well served, I am looking for my next visit for trying full course meal...
