I had high expectations when I visited this place for their so-called “barbecue misal,” but the experience left me quite underwhelmed. We went on a Sunday late morning and luckily got seating right away. Ordered misal for two people, but the first confusion was — where’s the “barbecue” in barbecue misal? There were no coals, no heating, nothing that even hinted at the concept. To make it worse, the misal trays weren’t even served hot; they were surprisingly cold, which already killed the vibe for me.
But okay, temperature aside, taste is what really matters, right? Unfortunately, even there it fell short. I tried all four varieties, starting with the Nashik misal. As someone who knows and loves authentic Nashik misal, I was genuinely disappointed. It was thin, watery, and lacked the signature masala punch. Next came the Kolhapuri misal, which I hoped would redeem the experience with some fiery flavor. Instead, it was just watery with a bit more spice, but no body, no depth, and no proper “tarri” (spicy oil) that usually makes Kolhapuri misal shine. The Puneri misal was more of the same story. Only the Jain misal was relatively better, but still nothing memorable.
We had also ordered dahi with the misal, which came at an extra charge (odd, since dahi is usually part of the set). What arrived was disappointing — less of a creamy curd and more like paneer with water separating out. I couldn’t really understand what went wrong there. On the brighter side, the lassi was good — refreshing, well-made, and honestly the only highlight of the meal.
I’ll give credit where it’s due: the service was fast, and the restaurant atmosphere was decent. But as a misal enthusiast who has tried countless variations across Maharashtra, I couldn’t help but feel this place doesn’t live up to the hype. The flavors lacked authenticity, the execution felt careless, and the “barbecue” label seemed like pure marketing. Overall, it was an average (if not below average) experience, and I walked out more disappointed...
Read moreThorat's Barbecue Misal: A Misal Lover's Paradise I visited Thorat's Barbecue Misal FC Road branch in Pune, when it was priced at Rs. 99/-, (as now they've rose to Rs. 108/-)I was blown away by the food. I ordered the unlimited misal with everything unlimited, and I was able to try four different types of misal: Nashik, Jain, Puneri, and Kolhapuri. You'll find that you can make your own misal customized in any way, with any rassa!
The Nashik misal was my favorite. It was full of flavor, and the spices were perfectly balanced. The Jain misal was also very good. It was light and flavorful, and it was perfect for those who don't eat onion or garlic.
The Puneri misal was a bit spicier than the Nashik misal, but it was still delicious. The Kolhapuri misal was the spiciest of the four, but it was still enjoyable.
I also enjoyed the unlimited accompaniments that came with the misal. I had the buttermilk, the lassi, and the solkadi, and they all helped to cut the heat from the misal.
The service at Thorat's Barbecue Misal was also excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they were always happy to answer my questions.
Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Thorat's Barbecue Misal. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves misal.
Delicious food, Unlimited accompaniments, Excellent service, Reasonable price, The restaurant can get crowded, especially on weekends.

Read moreOne of the best Misal Joints in pune. Don't rely on any negative review on other platforms. I visited this place few days back. They serve unlimited misal at rupees 99 and more importantly every thing on the platter is unlimited. Their misal has base of farsan. They offer you wide variety of different condiments like boiled Mutkey, white Chana, potatoes cooked in turmeric and other spices, yogurt, kande pohe and then diced onion. Bread of 2-3 varieties are served, slice bread, bakery bread both normal as well as buttered. Now coming to the best part and usp of thorats barbecue. They serve 4 kinds of rassa, Puneri Rassa - This is typical puneri rassa which has tangy and spicy taste to it. Kolhapuri Rassa - This is spicy rassa as name suggests. Nashik Kala Rassa - This rassa has unique flavor to it. I don't think any other joint serves you this kind of Kala Rassa. Jain Rassa - Its jain rassa that is without onion and garlic but i haven't taste it yet.
Another speciality about these rassas is they out coal under the container, which gives them smoky flavor.
Staff of this outlet is well trained and polite. They explain you the entire concept well. I personally like the taste of this outlet than their Narhe Outlet. This outlet is situated beside Sujata Mastani of FC road. They have maintained ambience quite well. As already said it costs you 99 rupess, its a must visit place for Misal Lover, but don't expect typical...
